Pros:
Beautiful surroundings. Lots of wildlife.
Cons:
Floods easily.
Myakka River is a lovely state park and a spot can usually be found on short notice. The campground is pretty well shaded but Summer can be a trial; hot, hot, hot and stand by for daily late afternoon thunderstorms.
The area is currently in drought but the park does flood easily so a tropical event can close it for weeks without inflicting any real damage. Be sure to call ahead if there has been any severe weather in the vicinity before your arrival.
