Platform Bed Configuration
|
Description |
I love rounded corners. Built here to accommodate a full size bed. The top platform is not on in this picture, but overhangs the front by about 8 inches. I used high gloss laminates and I wanted air/heat to get under to the tanks so I fabricated the front 4 panels with cool aluminum screening. The main purpose was to lighten the weight of the plywood with the cutouts, but serves as ventilation as well. Under the platform will be hanging bins in the grid for additional storage. The entire support grid can be easily unscrewed in the event I ever have to remove the tank. I have the platform done as well, but not shown here installed. IKEA 4-3/4" mattress which I have to go on top. Lightweight and comfortable, as I have slept on it many times. |

Platform Bed... With Added Gray Water Tank
|
Description |
Too hot in Tampa to work outside, and the big stuff is already done, so I thought I would do some fun stuff inside. A few months ago I installed a 50 Gallon gray tank I picked up at a sale. It is plumbed between the kitchen sink and the original gray tank. I put a Valterra valve on the tank so I can keep the two tanks separate. When ready to dump, I drain the main tank, then the aux. tank. I also have it configured to I can pump the original tank back up in to the large tank for added showering boondocking capacity. Today I got around to building the platform bed around it. |

Floor templates: End templates are less than 48" deep and end on crossmembers. Center templates are all 48" wide so they only have to be cut for length. Remember the perimeter is approximately 1 1/2" / 1 5/8" narrower because the template doesn't include the width of the C channel. (I moved some crossmembers to simplify tank installation and ensuring the 48" center to center. In 1957 crossmembers were not set very precise. No tanks below floor in Overlander.) |

Delaware Seashore State Park March 2016
|
Description |
On this trip we camped in the "new" DSSP campground on the north side of Indian River Inlet. This was a nice site right on the inlet. This time of year the water is shut off although you can still use the other 3 point hookups. They have frost free water spigots, to fill your tanks, but note that they are in the "old" campground on the south side of the inlet. We actually prefer the old campground ourselves, your mileage may vary.... |

Critter Prevention - Well, Sort Of..
|
Description |
The cutouts for the plumbing, tanks, valves, etc, were allowing critters in to the body of the trailer or at least a good place for them to hide. So, I made gaskets out of shower pan liner (very tough stuff and lasts nearly forever) and fitted them around the valves and such to create a seal from the tank areas below. I cut 1/2" vinyl strips from some old horizontal blinds and screwed them down to hold the gaskets in place. I can easily remove them if necessary. It worked out pretty well. It won't stop chewing critters, but lizards and bugs aren't getting through! |
