Glacier Smart Tow
|
Description |
The utility trailer was finally delivered and the first real tow with the Smart Car behind our Interstate was last week from Seattle to Montana's Glacier National Park. Stress free tow (16.8 average mpg) and equally stress free drive up the Going-to-the-sun-road in the Smart. Easy to maneuver the Smart around the park to some out-of-the-way places as well as congested areas, especially this time of year. The package fit nicely in a C-loop pull through, with plenty of room to spare as well as on the street during an overnight visit with friends in Missoula. Easily backed into Washington State campground sites twice during transit to and from Glacier, so it wasn't necessary to unload the Smart to park overnight. |

Billings KOA, Billings, MT
|
Description |
7/6/2014, 95 degrees, Site 119. A hot, rewarding, two day trip to get here. Cleared out of Gillette early on 7/5 for Montana via a favorite drive past Devils Tower on US 14 to WY 24/WY 112 - the scenery never fails to impress. The paving of MT323 from Alzada to Ekalaka was finally completed in late 2010, so we completed a long awaited trip over the Southeast Montana prairie along the Little Missouri River/Box Elder Creek. If you want to be out there (waaay out there) this is one of those places. Had hoped to overnight in Ekalaka but....next time we will opt for boondocking in the Custer NF nearby. Quick tour also of Medicine Rocks SP - also a no go. Ditto for Baker, MT, although a clean, good looking city. So onward on US12 to Miles City and Big Sky Camp and RV Park (Site 19, 90 Degrees). Despite some not so good online reviews, the place turned out to be clean, well kept, roads/sites well graveled, and the folks hospitable - also cash only. Nice place to be after a long hot drive. Up not so early the next morning for the (relatively) short trip to Billings and the KOA. Not a bad venue, get a paved site, the pool is warm, the resort folks friendly, and lots to do in town. Dinner as usual at the Windmill - very good! |
