Started out just seeing if I could get a photo of an Airstream behind the couple.
It looked disconnected, until I thought of the beret, the flamingo, and his wife's reaction to the whole thing. |

Bye bye, belly pan
|
| Description |
Arriving at a rest stop in nowhere, Minnesota, we heard a terrible scraping sound. The belly pan had completely corroded away, and the sub-floor was mostly gone. After unhitching, driving into town to buy tin snips, we were forced to stop twice more to hack away several more feet of pan that was now unsupported, all in -10 degree weather.
Continuing down I-90, we occassionally glimpsed 60's-era bottles of shampoo and shaving cream, droping through the floor of the bathroom and rolling down the highway...

Yep, I had to get a cowboy hat and abandon my Chicago roots... at least for this trip.
Taken at a forgotten homestead, roughly 5 miles south of I-90 outside Wall, SD. I just had to stop here, to shoot the Globe Trotter against the rustic backdrop of the weatherbeaten cabin. |

Rapid City sunrise
|
| Description |
Morning in Rapid City, SD. This day would include Mt. Rushmore, and a gorgeous drive through Badlands National Park. With no one in the park, we had it completely to ourselves, except for the dozen or so buffalo, many deer and lone porcupine we saw while driving through. For a midwest guy - seeing this for the first time - it coudn't get any better than this.

Montana snow

| Description |
The first sight that greeted us as we checked out of the hotel in Bozeman, MT.
The cold literally shattered the towing mirrors, and froze the wiring to the temporary towing lights. Halfway home, they snapped in two, leaving us with no trailer lights.
