Bambi Port...Tarp
|
Description |
During the monsoon season (July-Aug) we have LOTS of rain and thunder storms with the very real possibility of hail...YIKES! =:-) So during this part of the year, we will keep these tarps up to keep the hail out. There are 2..one runs from the front corner of the house to the middle of the side of the Bambi Port and the other runs the opposite direction from the back, overlappping in the middle of the Port. This is even a recycle job...we had the tarps from an earlier project, complete with grommets along the edges...they are hung from hooks at the top and at the bottom with bungee cords hooked onto a metal conduit pipe that runs behind the fence posts. It goes up and comes down fast, too. It's flexible enough to allow wind to escape and taught enough to keep out rain and hail. In the winter, we will remove the tarp since the weather is not as unpredictable...and the heat is not so intense. |

Bambi Port...Done #2
|
Description |
From inside looking street side. In this shot you can see the 30 amp outlet we had run to the forward part of the house wall...it's positioned so we can hook up while in the Bambi Port or while in the drive...or to accommodate a fellow Airstreamer should we have company! (We also ran a cable line to the Bambi port so we can hook up cable, too! Who's spoiled?) Also in this pic you can see the cement blocks we set in the gravel floor for the wheels and tongue stand...it took a while, but we finally got them level... You can see the lattice above the house roof in this shot, too. |

Bambi Port
|
Description |
Roofing almost done... (The under side of the roofing had gotten dirty while in storage outdoors...we did clean it up once the roof was finished!) In this shot you can also the plastic lattice we put up in the opening above the fence...this has been used in probably 5 different areas in our yard in various configurations...I think it's found its permanent home this time! We also put lattice in the space between the house roof and the Bambi Port roof to finish it off on that side. Everything from the rafters down, including the lattice, is painted to match the house... |

Bambi Port...Rafters Up & Roofing Begun
|
Description |
We had disassembled a earlier carport we had built in this space and saved all the materials. In fact, in the first "before" picture you can see the ledger board on the side of the house that supported the old carport at that house side. So when we got ready to put up the Bambi Port, we recycled virtually everything from the supporting posts attached to the fence posts to the corrugated roofing which we had previously coated with roof coating...the only materials we had to buy new were the cross beam 2x4s, miscellaneous hardware and another gallon of house trim paint! Recycle, recycle, recycle! Mr. Greg's the construction manager and I'm the "go-fer" and documenter. |

Bambi Port...Before...
|
Description |
"Bambi in the hole!" We lowered the gravel floor about 4" so that we had plenty of clearance for the Bambi to fit under the house overhang...a pain, for sure, but better than cutting off the house! |
