Drapery - % of fullness?

Hi! This is Dennis' other half - the one tasked to make new drapes for our '73 Land 21- footer.

We just got this nearly gutted beauty and it had no drapes. Can anyone tell me the amount of fullness they came with? In other words, for each 10 inches in coverage, how much material is used to cover that area and create the full ripples of drapes. Household drapes are 3 to 1 but I doubt that is right here. Anyone know?

I made new drapes to replace the originals for the front lounge in our '77 31' about 8 years ago.

When we purchased our '76 Argosy MH this year, it desperately needed new drapes. The pieces of fabric hanging in the windows couldn't even be called curtains!

I based my drapes on what I remembered from the '77. It's been a few months since I finished them, so I got out my notes. (Yeah, I made notes THIS time. )

In my notes the term "panel" refers to one pleat and the fabric reaching to the next pleat.

3.33" of curtain track per panel.
10" of curtain track = 3 panels.
5" of fabric = 1 sewn panel.

I allowed 1" of fabric for each pleat, sewn on the 1/2" mark. I marked the center of each pleat at 5", allowing 4" of fabric between each pleat. I attached each curtain clip midway between the pleats.

I lined my curtains with Rain No-Stain, so that they won't stain if we get a leak or leave windows open while away.

The photo shows the curtains that are pleated both top & bottom. You can leave the bottom pleats out if you don't have bottom track.

Wow! That is exactly what I needed.

Since posting my question we did have a chance to see a "live" Airstream with the curtains in place and I measured them - only forgot the critical between pleats measurement, so was still scratching my head. Your answer solved it for me. And the picture was a bonus!

Thanks for the information on curtains. What kind of hooks did you use on the bottom of the curtains?

Edie is my CO-Pilot and we have been on the road so I will answer on her behalf. There are 2 diffrent kinds of Airstream curtain hanagers. They are reffered to a "T" or "G" clips. The type of bottom rail you have determines the type of clip. They can be used either on the top or bottom. When I get home I will post pictures of both types.
