Adhesive for window gaskets
A few days ago someone asked about adhesive for attaching window/door gaskets. The 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive 08008 is typically used. You can find it at auto stores...other places. Here's a site that sells it for $5.99 per tube. http://www.autobarn.net/3mblacsupwea.html

It was I ever amusing Tin Hut....Thanks - I will check out our local Auto Dealer instead of the Hardware store - If not our Canadian Tire might carry it too.
We have all the leaks under control - but would like to get the new seal on to keep the mosquitos at bay.
Thanks again

The mosquitos in Texas are too big to come through the window. They'll knock ono the door, but if you don't open it they can't get in.

free gasket samples
This link shows different gasket shapes/profiles with an 877 number to order free samples to make sure it's what you're looking for. Prices are good as well per foot. Look at the pic, then scroll down to the bottom for the legend and per foot material.

Where can window gaskets be had locally?
I don't want to order my gaskets and then wait... I also can't determine the original shape of the gaskets since they are all dry-rotted and beyond recognition... I want to replace all of them at once...
Now that I know what adhesive to use, can anyone tell me where I might have luck picking up some decent (but not expensive) gasket material that will work for the windows on my 70 Overlander?
(I'm local to DFW area, in case you know somewhere around my parts.)
Thanks in advance!!

I'd try Home Depot, Lowes, Auto Zone, etc.

Given the deteriorated state of mine, does someone have a PIC of what the proper gasket should look like? ;-)

I'll see if I still have a piece from the '67. I had half moon shaped style that the po put on and it sealed well. The windows he didn't get to I ordered some and what I got was a u shape (flat on the bottom). The site I posted several replies back has pics and dimensions of many styles. The link below is a good source for many things Airstream. As long as it fits the window edge and seals tight & is durable it'll do.

The correct window and entrance door gasket for your 1970, "is not" available from anyone, except Airstream.
Our part number for that gasket is 45295.

The "Tire" is not likely to have it. (I'm an expatrioted Canuk).!
Try a bodyshop supplier in Peterborough or failing that most appliance parts houses carry it for dryer drum gaskets.

Thanks, Andy. I saw the picture of the gasket on your site. Looks like a hard one to find anywhere. How many feet would you estimate is needed for a 70 Overlander 27' w/o the Vistaviews? I'd like to do the door too. I'm guessing (don't have the coach readily available to go measure) 100 ft would do it? If so, you quote .80/ft on your site. What's shipping for 100 foot of this?
Thanks!
Daniel

I got to do the gasket thing to on my 75 Sovereign. I plan on doing them all right away. Guess I will buy the material before the sale ends at Inland RV even though I won't get to it for a month or so.

Another source for weatherstrip is McMaster-Carr at: http://www.mcmaster.com/
Under "FIND" enter: weatherstrip
Then choose: Bulb Seal Weatherstripping
Once you see a catalog page number, enter page: 3212
Then go to item: 21
The 5/8" wide by 3/8" high "D" shape bulb is the just slightly larger than the OEM. The OEM measures about 9/16" wide by about 3/8" high. The price is not too bad also. Plus, it comes with adhesive backing.
Enjoy!

Don't know if they have the weatherstrip that matches AS but they do have a nice collection and great prices. Thanks

Ah yes, the 45295 weatherstrip is quite different than my own, and those on a mid 70's Argosy I toured near Bay St. Louis over the weekend. I was surprised to find those on the Argosy exactly matched those on my '97 Excella. I replaced my door gasket with the #21 bulb seal and was delighted with the product from McMaster-Carr. In the Spring, I plan to replace all the window gaskets on my trailer using the same #21 gasket.

Thanks!
Thanks for all the PM's and replies... I checked North Dallas RV in Carrollton, like a couple people suggested. They had it, it's priced great at around 50 cents a foot, and they have the adhesive at a great price too. Best part, since I am 5 miles from them I get instant gratification!
If anyone is lookin, they have a couple nice 22' coaches up there on consignment in the 5k range. Wish I had the 5k!
Thanks again!
