I agree with others who recommend setting the tow vehicle parking brake. We keep the parking brake on until the trailer is fully chocked and then the hitch is elevated for release.

We had the same problem - jack fuse blowing due to a compressed lead wire. I ran new wire that is slightly longer to eliminate strain on the wire. This has worked well for us.
