I solved the problem.

The wooden dowel that is inside the spring had swollen with the humidity, I assume, and it would no longer pivot at the fixed end. I had to slide the awning off...

I must have a broken locking mechanism as the awning won't budge. A friend suggested prying off the cap with the lever. I don't like that idea but am running out of ideas. How do I unlock that...

Has anyone oiled the springs on their awning? I am having a problem with unrolling my main awning (1988) and The factory said to oil the spring.
There doesn't seem to be any openings to shoot oil...

Stop not working

Zip Dee suggested squirting silicone spray toward the spring. I don't see any openings to do that unless I pry off the end with the locking arm. That looks chancy. Also there don't seem to be any...

Thanks for the ideas, I'll try them ASAP. Only using elect. I'll look for those other screws. The cooling took about 5 hrs. some years ago with nothing to help it out...now takes too long.
