So the lock was mounted on the trailer (door frame), and they created a 'pocket' on the door itself to house the 'shaft' of the extended deadbolt?

How securely would that hold?

Good point about not seeing very many 40 year old box trailers around. My AS is a '61 and she still has no leaks and the floor is solid.
