The way I did it was to leave all the black on until the end of the day and then wipe with a soft diaper with flour- took about 30 minutes for one whole side of the trailer- getting into the seams...

I think a wet sanding with a very light- such as 1500-2000 grit paper is always a plus- even though you only have what sounds like mill marks- that brush look- it'll even out your skin nicely....
