Surprise, surprise! Most of the scare lights of that era are NOT 12volt and the 1156 auto, two contact, bulbs ....obviously won't work. The correct 115 volt bulb is an appliance, two contact, bulb.

The 220 outlet for a drier, for example, connection is the exact same as the 35 AMP outlet used for the Airstream 35 AMP connection.....this causes the confusion as in this case.

As a long time temporary repair I'd get some heavy aluminum tape. Put a couple layers of it, lapped, over the hole. Make the application look neat and you will be OK for as long as you want.
