Here's a checklist

* Two people, short trips? 26' or less, more is unnecessary
* Longer journeys? Have to cart more stuff? Think larger.
*Tiny tow vehicle? Don't kill it, stay small.
* Lots of mountains? Don't kill...

You have endless options, but here are some practical ones

If you want to communicate on the road, VHF/UHF with a nice transceiver is very practical, and a VHF/UHF transceiver with a magmount is cheapest. Program it with your laptop for the repeaters in...

Get legal advise

The several hundred dollars you might pay an experienced insurance litigator might be well rewarded. There are a lot of armchair and anecdotal experiences listed here and I have my own. I'm in the...

Could be the GFCI outlet

My experience:

Some outlets are much more sensitive to a ground fault than others. Sometimes it's a real wiring fault, and that can't be ignored.

However, I've found some...

Try "maker spaces"

High schools, vocational schools, "maker spaces", all these have people learning to do welding. Their teachers are very good at insuring there are no mistakes.

Aluminum welding is not as easy...

What brought us to Airstream

We've owned several Class As and Cs. We do maybe 20 camping nights a year. Costs too much for this little travel, plates, taxes, maintenance.

In a nearby small town, an Airstream Argosy was...

If you use cellular data, find who has the best signal in your neighborhood, then which of the alternate carriers that use that base carrier's signals have low-cost data plans. Then tether, sharing...

Be real about what you actually want.

Do you want a lot of projects? Go for it. I like projects but prefer to actually travel. It's possible to do both, but prioritize what you actually need, your budget, and DO NOT START on a project...

I like your vehicle, but your fingers are in your ears.

Guys aren't intimidated by vehicle height and stature.. Were it me, I'd do pretty much what you've done with your diesel. If you're a short person, perhaps weighing under 150lbs, big trucks are...

The consensus is right. Kick it down the road. If you want to travel, get one that's ready to travel. The number of shells out there-- projects gone wrong-- exceeds the number of trailers ready to...

Off-grid is do-able. Think: combos of energy sources

I go off-grid. Burningman is one place, and there are others.

You can make energy and store energy. The big sources have to be curtailed somehow, either through active conservation, or by...

Weight and distribution

The weight of the diesel is the difference you feel. I have an F-350, and a 26' Airstream Argosy ('73). The trailer calms down the ride significantly, and you'll find that to be true with the F-250,...

It's all about the ratings and safety. My 1993 F-150, even with overload springs, was unfit to haul my 26' 73 Argosy. The straight 6 + brakes weren't going to do it; that was apparent when I hauled...

Eight passengers leaves you at most, three choices

The 3/4 ton or 1 ton Excursions or suburbans might be the best idea. Four door pickup trucks aren't going to be enough for eight passengers.

A second option is a new or used 8+ passenger one...

We have a '73 Argosy, the step-sibling to AS. It's painted. yes, I know, travesty. But there's a benefit: it retains heat instead of reflecting it. Nice and toasty inside, especially with sunshine....

I'm going to go a different direction in my answer.

I use a ~104' "end-fed dipole" (see QSO-King). I have a mast that goes up 42' and I guy it to my trailer. This inverted-V configuration does...
