1968 Airstream Trade Wind
Overview I purchased this Airstream in Michigan in August of 2005 after an internet search and help from forums members. It is unclear how many owners there have been although I suspect I am at least the fourth. At some point in its history it has had significant work done including a bumper extension which accommodated an ugly box storage area and a small homemade grey tank. Ultimately, this modification lead to rear end separation and extensive repairs.

Systems and Running Gear
1968 Airstream Trade Wind Systems and Running Gear
The major renovations to the Trade Wind began over the spring/winter of 2007. So far...
• Removal of copper plumbing and replacement with PEX
• Removal of carpet and replacement with pergo
• Removal and replacement of kitchen counter and sink
• Replacement of refrigerator
• Removal of awning and replacement with period correct rope and pole awning
• Removal of clear coat and polishing
• Removal of the ‘ugly box’
• Repair of rear end separation
• Replacement of axles and brakes
• New curtains (thanks mom)

Work underway
• Replacement of bumper mounted grey tank with new 25 gallon under the frame tank.
• Cut down of bumper to original length
• Update electrical connection point
• Replacement of old AC with Carrier low profile unit
• Replacement of damaged bumper
• Repair of bent step
• Replacement of front rock guard
• Installation of updated furnace

Other Information
Progress on the renovations has been slow. Given the choice between working on the camper or heading down some forest service road to use her, I always chose to use her. A shiny camper is nice, a well used one leaves better memories.
