Is it dead JIM ?

I have a Dometic M52 in my 1965 safari..

Notice yellow crystal at the bottom near the burner.

It is the OLDER square BOX one with the Type "H" Bunson style Burner

Assuming this means the Ammonia system has been compromised ?

Anyone had a rebuilt core for these ? ( is it worth it ? )

My advice would be to just get a new one. Repairs on a 48 year old refrigerator are just not sensible unless you want a museum piece.

Opinion only, of course.

Darnit Jim, how am I supposed to know? I'm a doctor, not a refer technician!

I think it's all about whether you want the vintage look or not. This link has some great info on it:

The advantage of a newer unit is also the efficiency improvement which can go a long way while boondocking...

The advantage of the older unit is no 12V which can go a long way while boondocking...

Found a used Dometic RM660 online for my replacement..

The burner compartment on the RM660 doesn't have a large chimney "tube" like the M52 is that normal or am I missing parts ?

I've attached pic of the M52 and RM660

Drat both pics are on their side.. guess it ignores EXIF in photos...
The RM660 has a flat plate ontop ( image top is to left )...

The M52 has a vented tube ( image top is to right )...

You can get a rebuilt core put in. There is a place in Indiana. Elkhart I think. A couple of years ago I think it was about $300 without shipping.

Thanks ALL,

I found a "NEWER" working Dometic 660 fridge for $200 on craigslist..
So I am fitting this unit in...

My Question
is there a "chimney" on the RM660 like the older unit had ? Is this normal on newer fridges?

It has flat cover and the "twirly" bit on a wire inside so it seems complete .. just want to verify...

So I am likely going to chunk the 1964 Dometic M52... not worth fixing IMOP.. I have ALL the parts Shelves, freezer, etc... If someone is interested..
