Zip Dee awnngs

Can anyone tell me if a large zipdee awning roller can be made smaller to fit a trailer of that size ? Thanks

Yeah, I think so. The roller is simply a long piece of conduit. The spring assembly is in one end, and is about 3' long. At the other end is a cap with a short shaft in it. I think you can drill out the rivets that hold the cap on that end, remove the cap and shaft, cut the tube to length, and re-install the cap. I have done all that to rebuild a roller, but did not shorten the roller. The awning is riveted to the roller so to get the roller out you have to drill the rivets that fasten the awning also. You can order parts, rivets, etc. directly from zip-dee. however the rivets they send look just like standard aluminum poprivets to me. check the zip dee site for diagram and parts list.

Thank you so much Bill. I thought it was possible but other people who own zipdee's said that the company said that was not possible. Thanks again. Now my search goes on for a five foot one for the streetside windows. Bob Morgan

CAUTION WITH THE SPRING.

The rear spring on the big awning, if not "UNWOUND CORRECTLY" can and will break your arms, hands, and/or cut your neck wide open.

This is not a joke.

Absolutely. I have done it. I assume you are not talking about changing the main awning to roadside. You can also cut down a longer roadside window to fit a smaller side, rear, or front window awning. Make sure you cut the non spring side of the roller tube. Also be really really careful messing with the spring. It can be and has been an arm breaker.
