Blanket UNDER mattress
 

As a newbie to AS, a problem every night has been that the mattress moves away from the wall. Solution is probably common knowledge among As owners, but I didn't know, until a friend suggested, that by placing a blanket under the mattress, the mattress will stop "walking" during the night.

Now all I must do is extend the plywood upon which the mattress rests to compensate for the fact that the bed design results in the mattress hanging over the edge of the frame. Can anyone tell me why that design exists? Must be a good reason that my simple mind can't figure out.

We put an egg-crate foam pad under ours. It keeps them from walking around and it also adds a little additional insulation. Since we live in a cooler climate and the beds are over storage compartments. The extra insulation is good.

HCR, Try the "no slip" rug pads sold at Lowes....that should work for you at night but still allow you to move the matress around to make the bed

I used some 6" pieces of wide Velcro at the corners of the bed pedestal. Either the fuzzy part of the hook art work will pretty well to stop the mattress walking.

:) Hi, I took a pair of web straps with plastic buckles to hold my mattress in place. I put one at the foot of my bed and the other one at the side facing the rear of my trailer. Each strap has one end screwed to the bed platform and the other end sewed to the mattress. This allows enough movement to make the bed, but doesn't allow it to move around while laying in it or while driving.

It sounds like your original RV "short" queen has been replaced with a standard size queen. Our original mattress has been replaced with a regular sized queen and we now have the same issue of the mattress hanging over the edge of frame. It doesn't bother us too much but eventually we'll extend the plywood.

Bed platforms that are 4-5" shy of the mattress edge have been a weight saving, space expanding design 'feature' for quite some time now. Sitting on the bed or untrained owners not leaping to the middle when they get in bed :p causes all the trouble with the mattress walking in that direction.

I'm more inclined to increase the platform a couple inches to get around the much more annoying issue of bedding getting caught in the under-bed storage compartment doors every time I want to get out a pair of socks or examine my Wally Byam bottlecap collection one more time. :huh:

I haven't had a problem yet with the queen bed slipping. Maybe the PO had fixed it. Good thing about buying a 4 year old new trailer is that the original issues have been fixed - I hope.

Rich--one would hope the problems have been fixed when buying a 4 yr. old trailer, I agree, and in my case, that's not the case. Lots of small and irriitating issues.

My trailer does NOT have a queen bed--two single beds and each has the overhang of the mattress.

Kind of like marriage, huh?

Well, Carol, a lot of marriages go bad from a bad bed, or bad bedtimes, or something like that.

Then there is also bad in bed......

I surrender, white flag and all that--can't run the risk of getting banned from this site--too many issues with the new (to me) Stream.

Well I've only spent 4 nights in mine, bought it a month ago, but the bed is pretty nice. Then again I went from a 72 Tradewind with 2 single beds in it.

Seems to me the matresses squish down and spread out and then hang over the edge a bit. zz

Took advice of Glogeo and bought a no-slip rug pad at Lowe's (2X 8 feet and the heavy duty version for about 15 bucks).

Success--mattress stayed put!

First pointer is to fly below the radar. Repost on any oft-repeated issue. Mods are bored by such stuff and won't look in.

We all have lived with the work rule of "Don't say anything you wouldn't repeat to your mother." Now, my mom is very conservative and proper -- and she still surprises me a lot! I'd have had work problems following the rule... So far, this thread demonstrates good judgment about staying within the lines. :flowers:

Our solution to the walking mattress is to push it back towards the wall. Takes a second.

Of course, mattresses don't move on their own and a mattress that was in place before bedtime must have moved because of some activity during the night. Perhaps it was mice struggling to get out from under the mattress, or perhaps "personal time". So, a round of applause to all senior citizens with walking mattresses!

Oh, as for my mother, I said a lot of things in front of her that she had some difficulty with, but as she got older, the loosened up and at times in her 80's outdid me. Parents never stop embarrassing you.
