Leaf springs

1 Attachment(s)
Replacing the leaf springs on '59 Tradewind. Would like help from anyone with spring knowlege.
1. The unloaded height of the springs is 5". They may have sagged over 45 years.
2. The sprung weight of the trailer is 1410# per side, bone dry and naked.
3. Clearance from top of axle to frame is 4" bone dry.
My questions are:
A. What 'spring rate' should I ask for in a new set of springs.
B. Should I look into tapered springs, to reduce pad height, which is pretty high in this underslung drop axle?
Appreciate any suggestions. Except I don't think I want a Henschen axle.

I would take them to a spring shop and have them rearched for half the price of new and just as good as new.

Garry :)

Leaf Springs

Garry, thanks for the idea. What height should I get them re-arched to? Any ideas?
