Nameplates

Where can I get a nameplate for my 1975 Airstream? I like the ones Vintage has....but I hate to pay $35 each plus shipping for them. Any place else to get a reproduction, etc? Haven't seen any on ebay.

What's wrong with the ones that came with your 75?

$35 does not sound out of line. Sooner or later one will come up on ebay, but it will probably go for about the same price if not more.

You never can tell though, maybe someone who reads this post will have an extra.

Have you tried a wanted classified ad in the forums classifieds?

Mine are missing.

Airstream used individual raised letters rather than nameplates in 1975. Each letter had 2 attached mounting screws. The nameplates you mention on VTS are for 1960's models.

The Airstream online store has nameplate decals for $16.95 each. They would not be the same as original for a '75 but would serve the ID purpose since yours is an Argosy.

Rog0525 is correct about raised letters yes, painted nameplates no. The were not attached with "mounting screws but pins cast into the back of the letters. They were installed before the inside end caps. The pins go through the skin and are secured with a washer that grabs the pin and gobs of white goopy stuff. Are your letters missing? Incidentally you can rearrange AIRSTREAM to spell I ARE SMART.

I referred to the pins (aka stems) as screws because a hex grab nut threads on to them. Those stems break very easily. My guess would be that someone broke the stems off the Argosy letters when they removed them to paint the end caps, then couldn't reattach the letters.
