Awning Question

Hellow to all!

Should the awning be removed before the stripping process begins? I've seen lots of pictures where it looks kike it's been left on. What is the potential damage from removAll stripper?

The removall did not harm anything on my trailer. I did cover plastic lenses with blue tape and brown paper. I would not let it stay on the awning fabric to dry though. In fact anywhere it dries and is not removed while hosing off the application, it will be very hard to get off later.

That's good news. Thanks much!

Daanderson,
We had ours out to P&S Trailer Services in Ohio for stripping, polishing, and clearcoating. When I got the tour of the shop I noticed that they only remove the support arms from the side of the trailer and then they somehow extend the awning a few turns and then attach it to the ceiling of their shop. That way the fabric is kept out of harms way while they are stipping and polishing.

Thanks for the info. Haven't decided exactly what I'm going to do yet but getting the arms out of the way is a good tip. Thanks again!

IMHO,

Once you go to the trouble to de-tension the spring(s) and remove the rafter arms, it is a 5 minute job from that point to remove the entire roller tube with the cover and fabric (CFR).

If it was me doing the stripping and polishing, you would be sure that I would remove the CFR as well. I sure wouldn't want to get any stripper or over spray on that expensive to replace awning!!!

Lacquer thinner will remove it, if it's a good quality.
