Yamaha has a new generator coming out April 1 they say it will run a 15000 btu a/c and a 1000 watt microwave at the same time. What do you think?

I think Honda discontinued their equivalent model I wonder why yammy thinks they can make a go of it. I have always liked size of the unit but choked on the price.

Absent in the article was the decible level. Absent from thr Yamaha website was the model.

Dave the dicible level is 51 to 57 dBA I found it at Wise Sales

Honda has never had an inverter generator in their EU series (QuietPak) of this size.
Honda's current lineup of Inverter EU series gennys is the EU 1000, EU2000, EU3000 (quietest genny on the planet) and the NEW last year EU6500. The EU6500 retails for $3995 but can be had for $3600 at my local dealer.

This Yamaha is advertised in this months Trailer Life magazine. It seems a perfect fit to me for a 13,500 or 15,000 A/C and to be able to use a few things beside the A/C. The retail for the 4500 Yamaha is $3195. I bet Honda isnt too far behind with a similar size unit to fit between their EU6500 @ 60dbl. and their 3000 at 58dbl. But maybe not since two of thier 2000 can be hooked together for 4000w for $2000.

I do like this size unit tho. And it seems to be as advertised as quiet as the Honda 3000. or very close anyway. The honda 3000 is a bit quieter at idle than the new Yamaha. I like the idea of lower rpm though.

Have you seen the Yahama 6500 quiet running gen? It shows a dbl around 60. Don't know the price. Found it at Hayes Sales in Oklahoma.

I just went to the Yamaha site and they don't have a 6500? of any kind. They have two versions of a 6600 but neither of them are of the quiet variety. Both have decidbles of 73.5. One is a commercial and the other is residential but they are essentailly the same geeny. I looked at all the Yamahas listed and don't see a quiet one any bigger than the 4500 we are referring to in this thread. All the rest are over 70 dbl. ...

Ya know...most RV generators that are frame mounts are in the 70+ decible range. Even the MOST popular ones that are 2500 Onan that mount in most of the slide in truck campers built today are rated a 70 dbl.....they are a bit loud if you ask me. 70 is twice as loud as 60....on the decible scale each 0.1 dbl is 10 percent louder. So it don't take but a few decibles to make a bid difference. Have you ever parked beside a 45 foot million dollar moster with a 9,000 w genny.....Inside its not too bad...but hooollly....#%$! they are loud when you are camped beside one.

I am gonna investigate this new Yamaha...its right up my size alley and might be as quiet at least at full throttle as the 3000 Honda. My local dealer carries both Honda and Yamaha....but ...one thing HE says is the Honda's are easier to get parts an work on....soooo...take it for what it is..information to think on.

Here's how Decibels (dB) work:

If the sound levels measured at one generator shows 60 dBa, and the sound levels measured at another show 70 dBa, the second level is really 10 times as loud as the first, not twice as loud.
The way I learned it, dBs are a convenient way of expressing differences of measurements, and are defined as a constant multiplied by a logarithm that represents the ratio of two numbers. Thus, if you measure power, one measurement is 1 watt, the second measurement is 2 watts, the ratio is 2, and the base 10 log is .3 (10 to the .3 power is 2), and the constant in this case is 10, thus if one power level is twice as big, the increase is 3 dB.
Similarily, going from 10 watts to 100 watts: the ratio is 10, the logarithm of 10 is 1, and the constant of 10 times 1 gives 10dB.
So, following this example, going from 60 to 70 dB is ten times as loud.

For my us Laimen...sp....I do know this. 70 dbl is one hell of a lot noisier than 60....60 dbl is as loud as I can put up with camping.
