October will be great for your trip, right now's our rainy season. Look for the cheapest fuel at the boder between NM & AZ - Lupton -(we stopped just off I-40), the "J that Flies" in Winslow (they also have a website where you can check fuel prices nation wide), and Maverick in northern Flagstaff. AZ welcomes you!

Its got be a Rt 66 trip

Now I am really ready to go 66 again. We just got back from Door County, Wisconsin ( been going there for 25 years and its great) but I have a hard time staying in one place with the Airstream, love that open road.
Our Chesapeake Vinny will be going, so camping by water is a must in order to keep him a happy dog camper. We will probably go as far as Kingman so any campground suggestions along 66 that are dog friendly and near water are greatly appreciated.

October is the perfect time of year to be in NoAZ...the "high country" as we desert rats call it. The "monsoons" will have passed by then...the days will be pleasant and the nights will be cool and refreshing. There are several campgrounds, private and public in the area of Flagstaff. Have a great time and drive safely! And most of all, have a blast!
