If you like to Boondock/Dry Camp an oven really comes in handy since it doesn't require electricity. However, if you have a generator, microwaves also come in handy. If I had to choose having one or the other, I'd take the microwave.

Wow, we don't have an oven in the Bambi, only a cooktop with the refrig under it. After reading this thread, I really want (need) an oven too. There's just no room! If you see us camping - please invite us in for some baked goods. We'll bring the coffee, adult beverages - anything you want! :D

There is absolutely nothing quite as good as the smells that come out of an oven on a chilly fall day.

George,,, Bambies can bake!!! purchased a toaster oven/rotisseri/broiler,, set on the dinette table or over the sink,,, works great,, brand is a famous ex fighter,,, give it a shot,, happy trails,, donna

We've often used the oven in all 3 trailers we have owned- in fact one Thanksgiving we did a complete turkey dinner in it while boondocking in the Sierra's in the '67 Safari. After gorging ourselves and the 2 mutts, we tossed the carcus for the coyotes to enjoy.
Also since we lack a toaster we use the broiler to do toast for breakfast.

To cook or not to cook
 
We used to have a trailer with just a stovetop and microwave. My wife used that as an excuse to eat out at every opportunity (almost every rally) and an occassional previously frozen something or other. Now we have a stovetop, microwave AND oven so we can alternate between the frozen stuff and some really good meals. Not everyone uses the oven for it's intended purpose tho', our friends knew a lady who used her oven to store her shoes in:lol: !

Since my only near-religious fresh baked biscuit experience was on a Smoky Mountain morning, I can only imagine what it could be like in the Rockies. :p

We're glad you're not deprived of fresh baked goods out there. :D

Oven? Keeps my bread fresh while camping. If I dedicate a camping day to the instruction manual, I might find out how to make it work both as oven and microwave. As it is, those are home things. We cook outdoors on the road. ~G

Frying tonight?
 
I wouldn't be without my oven. If I were to keep it for one thing it would be the ubiquitous frozen oven chip(fry). In almost every oven I've used you have to constantly turn the chips over to get them to cook evenly. With the Magic Chef I just spread out the chips on the hot MC baking tray, then give them 10 minutes on top of the lower plate followed by 10 minutes under the main flame. Perfectly crispy fries every time!:D

Believe it or not, that little old stovetop Ovenette works well. As for the skillet, nothing but an old Griswold cast iron will do.

I often spent Thanksgiving with my brother and sister in law at their farm in their '84 32' Excella. Her sister and two brothers own the three adjoining properties, making a huge block. All four families to the Thanksgiving dinner. Biscuits along with a breakfast like Sugarfoot's in the Excella with just the three of us is even better than the excellent Thanksgiving dinner.

At a minimum, we cook bacon, then biscuit at least once on EVERY trip. :chef: We've been known to cook part of supper in the Magic Chef, too.

I feel kinda bad about the shape the oven's getting in though. Since the oven was SPOTLESS when I got it, maybe Aunt Shirley will come out of Airstream retirement and E-Z-Off it for me if I ask real nice...

I doubt it, though :D

To Eat and Heat
 
We've used our oven to both cook and as an auxilliary heat source when the outside temps hit near 0 with high wind. It really helped out and could be the difference between freezing and surviving if the power or furnace fan failed. Without power the furnace won't operate, and we don't have a radiant heater.

Pizza!
 
We are a family who haven't owned a microwave in 7 years!

Our camping favorites are stovetop popcorn (I have a kettle just for popcorn) and Pizza in the oven! I really think my kids would rebel if we didn't have pizza at least once when camping!

The oven is also great for the various pillsbury products: cinammon rolls, turnovers, biscuits....

I think the oven is one of the best features of my trailer!!

Is that dangerous? Is there any difference operating the oven with the door closed vs. open as far as oxygen consumption and CO emission into the trailer? I don't know how it's vented but I don't recall anything that looks like a fresh air inlet from the outside. The furnace on the other hand I believe uses a heat exchanger. We usually have the windows open when cooking since we've only done summer trips so far. I'd like to take the Silver Palace on some ski adventures and am wondering how much cooking is safe with the trailer closed up. -Bernie
