Just purchased 1971 safari and need advice
Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum and a proud owner of our first airstream. We purchased a 1971 safari for $3000.00 and in my eyes is in very good condition. It does need tires and a good cleaning. The only sad thing to report so far is a dent in the center front towards the top where a tree limb fell on it.It is the size of if someone threw a basketball at it.There are no creases and is not on seams,Can this be repaired and not replaced. Also if someone like dent wizard did it through suction will aluminum crack if pulled.Any advice would be great.Thankyou

Welcome and use the search bar above..
Welcome, and congrats on your new purchase...

If you search on "dents" and other related words above, you'll find stories and answers to question. Short version is you probably won't get there with dent-pull technique, but might if you removed some inner skins and pushed it out. Cracking not so much an issue as stretching, and metal already stretched.. Hard to "un-stretch" it.. Double skin means it is hard to use magnetic roller ball or other techniques used in other aluminum fabrication also...

welcome to the forums...

funny you should mention the "dent" thing...size of a basketball....I just pulled one out. popped right out easily, although, there is some minor scarring visible. I just used a suction cup hook, 'cuz thats what I had laying around the house.

anyway, there are pics in my photo gallery, if you want to see the size, location, and results. just click on my name, and select "view chuck's photo gallery".

I too have pulled out a few dents using a car suction cup from the auto parts store. If you heat the area a little with a hair dryer it will be easier to pull..

I had two big dents in the back. I was pulling out the end cap anyway and they popped right out. I would try the suction cup thingy though if you are not pulling them out for another reason.

Welcome to the forums. It is an extremely valuable tool. We are located in Groveport also. I went outside and looked up and down the street, did not see another Airstream, but maybe you are close by.
