New Tires for 2500 Sierra HD
I have a 2018 GMC Sierra with 25,000 miles, most of those are towing my 23' AS. I'm in the middle of a 4,000 mile trip now and another 5,000 miler in May. I have the factory issue Goodyear Wrangler SR5's on the truck and just had to have on repaired as I took a nail. So, one patched time and another 9,000 miles ahead of me this year. Time to replace? Thinking the Michelin Defenders' would be a better choice. Tire experts? What would you do? thanks!

Michelin’s will be going on my 2020 GMC Denali as soon as I have an excuse to dump the Goodyear tires it came with...

I have the same truck (2017). My Goodyear Wrangler SR5 OEM 265/60/R20 tires have about 5/16th left after 42k miles (about 50% of miles were towing).
With winter ahead here in Colorado I am going to replace with BFG 275/65/20 KO2 AT DT tires. The DT (different tread compound) have a much more dense compound vs. the regular KO2 specifically for 3/4-1-ton high torque applications and come with a 50k mileage warrantee. I want a little more versatility for off the beaten path excursions, and a very slightly larger tire, keeping all suspension stock. If I were going to stay on road 100% the Michelin Defender would probably be top of the list. |
This is what I use
TV: Michelin Cross Climate LTX 255/45R20 AS: MICHELIN Defender LT225/75r16 Ltx long range:e |
No one ever complains about Michelin tires...

I put Michelins on after about 50K on the OEM's.
My 2500 HD has the camper package and it came with 18" tires, not the more common 20" tires. I'm not sure if that makes any difference but my go-to tires have almost always been Michelin. |

Two (2) things:
Make: Michelin Rating: E How you use them will determine which type (only road vs. off road). |
I routinely get 60K+ out of Bridgestone Duravis.

I to like the Michelin tires but my son-in-law who always does research before buying anything, went with Toyo Open Range AT tires.

Ditto. Run the KO2s. Very happy |
Am firmly in the Michelin camp too.
Got rid of the factory installed Firestone tires after 10k miles.. Very satisfied after 85k miles with my Michelin Defender LTX on my ‘16 RAM 2500. Quiet, comfortable ride, and secure in the knowledge that these are well engineered tires. My $0.02.. |
My GY Wranglers lasted 73k miles as original equipment on my 2016 Chevy 2500 Duramax. I was gonna try to get them to 80k until driving through lovely Fort Lee NJ where the the road conditions are beyond deplorable. Tore up the inside sidewall of the right front. Have to say those Wranglers treated me well.
Wanted to put on Michelin Agilis Cross Climates but were too hard to get. So I put on Michelin Defenders. So far great (michelin defenders 16 inch on the rig too.)! |
The stock Bridgestones on my Tundra wore too fast, so I replaced with the always popular Michelin Defender.
Happy. |

Great tire replaces the defender with improved performance. Came out last year and Installed them on my F-250. With better sidewall specs it will be a great tire on the AS when the time comes. |
Consider the Cooper 10-ply tires (AT3-4S). I just put 4 on my truck today. It comes with a 65,000 mile warranty.

Recently replaced the cooper at3 on my 2005 silverado at 81000 miles. Put on another set of 10 ply coopers at about $400.00 less than the Michelins. Is a great tire and very quiet.
