MAXX Air ll vent covers

We just bought the Maxxair ll Fanmate covers to protect the fantastic fans, but have not installed them yet because they reduce the bright light coming through the fans. Now wondering if the protection is worth it. Anyone out here ever use them?

I use one, but not on the bedroom fan. The main value is being able to leave the fan open when it is raining, both occupied and when stored. It does reduce the light and the airflow, so I did not put one on the bedroom fan.

FF vent covers

Not sure what the MAXX Aire II fan cover looks like or what color it is. On our 2017 23D and now our 2019 25 RBT we have used the Fantastic Fan "Ultrabreeze" covers in the white color. They also come in smoke and black. The light reduction is minimal and no notice of decreased airflow. These covers are made by the same folks that made the fan. We like them very much and are very easy to install and very easy to pop off to clean. Make sure you get the optional bug screen. It snaps right in before installation. About 15 minutes each. Easy peasy.

On the rain issue, both of our Airstreams had ultra sensitive rain sensors. The fans would turn off and close up if I was even sweating a bit. Even with the fan covers on they would close at the first hint of moisture. I disconnected the rain sensor (takes about 10 minutes per fan and all is well. It has to be raining pretty hard and blowing just right to have any significant droplets of water come in.

I have used the Maxair II's on all 4 of my AS's. Not sure loosing light there is an issue for us. The functionality of running the vents while in the rain, or leaving the vents cracked open when going down the road on hot days to us is worth any light that might be lost. I do have 2 skylights also in currant 28' model. When hot, we close the curtains to keep sun out anyway...I think the Maxair covers are great.;)

I am using it for the reason of reducing light.

As a bonus, mine have a built in screen, so no more twigs getting caught in the fan blades.

Maxx Air Vent covers are not recommended for use on Fantastic Vents only the Ultra Covers. I have two and the make a nice set up.
On your skylight redo I highly recommend:
Maxim Skylights (Airstream skylights)

They will last longer than you trailer.

I use white FanTastic Ultra Breeze covers on one of the FanTastic fans in both of my trailer. The covers do reduce light a little bit, but I like that in the bedroom.

The dome lid of the Fantastic fan fits perfectly into the Fantastic cover, so that it does not prematurely stop the lid from opening. IMO, using the wrong cover can shorten the life of the lift motor if it binds when opening.

Not recommended by whom?? The Maxx Air Vent II works fine with the Fantastic Vents...I have been using for years. The standard Maxx Air vent is not as high as the II model, and will impair the full opening, but the II model works fine.
