Mods, post not showing up...

I just posted to the Low class trailer cuisine.... topic but the post didn't show up. However it says that I was the last poster (as of this writing anyway).

Ad poping up.

The ad below keeps popping up on my computer at home and here at work. Is something broken??? The forums do appear below but only half of them. The rest is blocked by the ad.

Boondocker 01-15-2006 09:16 AM

I got that add once yesterday and had to shut down my browser to get rid of the thing

Buttercup 01-15-2006 09:19 AM

That's what we had to do. I am not sure but I think it might actually be a google thing from the ads by google at the top of the forums...

Same here, weird huge ad, and my twist on the posts not showing up is that I get an e-mail for a subscribed thread having a new post, but then there's no new post to read in the thread when I click on the link. Doesn't happen a lot, but does happen enough times to remember.

Buttercup 01-15-2006 09:38 AM

Well I looked into Social Knowledge Network a little. This big ad is coming from Adbrite (details here). SKN I think is Andy R's group of forums. Unless he sold them, which I doubt.

Buttercup 01-15-2006 09:40 AM

Looking further, it looks like it might be a "network intermission ad" from adbrite.....

Buttercup 01-15-2006 09:45 AM

For your intermission....

I don't know how others feel about this but it has been annoying. It looks like the forums here and others are becoming more of an advertizing venue and less of a place of community.

The Intermission, by

Hi,

We are super-excited to announce the release of the "Intermission".

So excited, in fact, that it’s hard to write this. Hands shaking, feet tapping, must…contain…ourselves. (and lay off the caffeine)

We set out to create the ultimate ad unit.

Sure, text ads and banner ads are good. But it’s time to innovate. To come up with a new kind of ad that makes more money for publishers, and gives more exposure to advertisers. The ad must be intrusive, without being annoying. It shouldn’t require any website design alterations for the publisher, or any extra work on the part of the advertiser.

(cue dramatic soundtrack)

Behold: The Intermission.

Enjoy the Intermission FAQ, below. Thanks for your support!

The AdBrite Team

What's an Intermission?
A full-page display. The name of the publisher’s site, and a prominent link that allows visitors to easily close the ad, are displayed at the top of the screen. Advertiser bidding starts at $10 CPM (1-cent per unique user), and will grow quickly on quality sites.

Sort of like the "interstitial" ads I’ve seen on Cnet, NYTimes.com, and other big sites?
Kind of, but not really. The problem with full-page “interstitial” ads is that they’re just that -- “ads”. Intermissions, on the other hand, display the advertisers’ actual web site to the user. The advantage to advertisers is that they don’t have to create an ad -- just send people straight to any URL (homepage, landing page, video, etc.). And visitors prefer looking at (and interacting with) websites, rather than full-page ads on websites.

Will visitors get annoyed?
User experience is a top priority. Intermission Ads are never shown to a user on their first visit to a site, and are never shown to the same user more than once per 24-hours. This means that the user is already engaged with the website before seeing an Intermission, and won’t be turned off by a full-page ad. We make it easy to instantly close an Intermission, should the user choose to.

Okay, sounds great. How do I get started?
"Intermission" is now available on every AdBrite site. Every Intermission will be submitted to the publisher for review, and will only appear once approved by the publisher. Visit AdBrite, pick a site, and buy an Intermission.

Do you have any closing words?
In our opinion, the low cost to advertisers and high return for publishers make this the biggest no-brainer in the history of the universe. Or something. But we’re psyched -- and hope you are too.

Thanks, and enjoy!

Hello Mods,

Twice now when I've replied to a topic, it disappears from view. I can find it by doing a search. If I reply again, it then shows up. I am now hesitant to reply to a topic since it may disappear altogether.

The most recent one was the one on Travelux. The second reply by me was just an attempt to get it out of "purgatory".

Dennis

Sorry you're having trouble. I deleted the extra post you mentioned. You might try dumping your temp Internet files and cleaning out cookies. We haven't had any reports recently of trouble (except yours...). But if the trouble persists, Pm a moderator and we'll try to help.... or you could turn off the computer and go camping. :)
