Trading Jeep for Jeep.... help

Anyone know what the tow rating is for the 2018 Wrangler JK 4door with the engine upgrade is ?

My 2013 JK just did a Key West to Ms trip and on the interstate... performance if you need it to get out of someones way in an emergency situation ; was just not there. No acceleration . It is scary knowing what you need to do and not being able to follow thru.

I did Jeep.com Chat and Phone line. No joy there.

All knowledge welcome ,
Thanks,
jasmine

2000 pounds when properly equipped. I looked on the Jeep site. Lots of good info available there.

The JKU has a tow rating of 3,500 lbs. https://www.jeep.com/jeep-capabilities/towing.html

Were you towing something? Did you have a problem with the handling or just the acceleration? Not being smart but the Pentastar V6 with 285 hp is not going to accelerate that great and if youíre towing itís not going to accelerate at all. JKs arenít known for being quick. I lived mine but wouldnít dream of towing with it.

4500-lbs and 285-HP is more than we had in the dark age 1970s and 80s. Somehow crossed the entire continent several times without incident.

Tow Rating doesnít mean too much. Leaves too much out. A WD Hitch and Receiver of proper type will cover whatís needed. Contact Andy Thomson at Can Am RV. Heís set up your vehicle with heavier AS.

How you use the the rig is the thing.

Maybe youíre doing it wrong?
My 2005 tundra has the same horsepower as your Jeep but much more weight. When towing I can stop faster than I can accelerate, so in an emergency I hit the brakes, not the gas.

Itís not a sports car. Donít try to drive it like one.

JK or JL?

Jeep has two wranglers out in 2018, the old model JK and the new JL. Both have the same tow rating of 3500; however the JL has the eight speed auto transmission available vs the JK's six speed.

While a wrangler will never be a speed demon, the rear axle ratio will make all the difference in the world. The JK has a 3:21 standard with a 3.73 optional and included on with the max tow package. Only the Rubicon gets the 4:10. The JL has a 3:45 standard and the 4:10 only available with the Rubicon.

The difference between towing with a 3:21 and a 4:10 is huge. Many in the jeep world swap out there gears to 4.56 or even 4.88 to compensate for the bigger tires and their body armor. Of course, the lower the ratio, the lower the fuel economy.

FWIW, I use an '18 jl unlimited rubicon v6 auto with wd hitch and sway control and it works at least as well as my mother's grand Cherokee with the same drivetrain. Also, the tow package includes a properly sized 2" receiver and pre wiring for brake controller (just need a pigtail that plugs in under the dash) with 7 pin plug unlike the jk, which had a smaller receiver and 4 pin. The sahara and rubicon both come with larger brakes than the sports.

The rating is identical to the grand Cherokee without wd hitch, but no rating is given for wd hitch on the jl, while the grand Cherokee is rated 6000lbs. Given the ladder frame, way beefier axles, longer wheelbase, larger brakes and heavy duty cooling vs the grand Cherokee, the tow rating doesn't make much sense. The much smaller overall 3.2 v6 equipped Cherokee is rated 4500lbs.

Its immeasurably better towing than my grand wagoneer rated at 5000lbs. Only thing I can see limiting it is the removable top.
