I-75 Southbound closed near Detroit
Just saw a report. Southbound I-75 will be closed for approximately 2 years starting in early February. Northbound will remain open. Here is a map of the construction area.
I suspect this will be a major issue for folks coming into the US thru Windsor and trying to head south. I-94 is another option to get to I-275 but is heavily traveled. During non-rush hours, I would consider taking I-94 to Telegraph US-24 then south to pickup I-75 south of the construction. Expect LOTS of semi traffic whichever way you go.

Thanks for the heads up we drive that all the time.

I -94 is as heavily traveled as I -75. The problem is, I -94 is a 70 year old highway (built in the 1940s) in the close in areas. So the I -96 routing will be as fast or faster, even with the added distance. One can also consider I -94 to US -24, then back to I -75. Traffic flows fairly well as signals are coordinated and those 'Michigan Left' turns....

I96 to I275 is not for the faint of heart. If you can't do 80, you might want to take another route.

An update, southbound closure starts Feb 4, 2017. Based on a report I heard this morning, when construction on the southbound side completes, they will route northbound traffic to the southbound lanes (still no southbound travel).

FWIW, one of the things they are working on, a section of the roadway on the big bridge over the Rouge river fell out! There was a large hole and a number of vehicles hit it. I they are going to completely replace the roadbed on the bridge. While they are redoing the Rouge bridge, they are going to replace two other bridges farther south. The two long bridges are to be replace by four shorter bridges (lower cost to build and maintain).

Thanks for the heads up. Here is the count down timer to the closure.

I think I'll be taking Sarnia to Flint and then Ann Arbor to Cincinnati. Hopefully that route will flow ok.

There may still be some extra traffic once you get to AA.

FWIW, I would seriously lean toward taking 94 from Port Huron down to 696 to 275 to M-14 to AA. Then south on 23. You would mostly be on 3 or 4 lanes. 23 from Flint to AA is 2 lanes and there is a bunch of construction once you hit Brighton. They are modifying 23 to put in a center lane in the stretch between Brighton and AA.

Depending on time of day and how traffic looks, you might get to Toledo faster staying on 275 and not going further west to AA.

That's the route we used last time 75 was being rebuilt. It works well.

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 08:55 PM.
