Unless you have actually *done* EMP testing on this and that, be careful about what you decide to depend on. Given the rather exotic setups involved in running a truck sized object through a full set of tests ... that's a bit uncommon. There are a number of reasons to suspect that the newer stuff may actually do better than something that is 40 years old.

Time to "wallpaper" in the garage

"In order to enclose the equipment in a nested faraday cage, place the foil-covered device in a plastic bag, such as a freezer bag, and wrap that bag completely in aluminum foil. If you really want to protect the equipment against a large EMP, add another layer of plastic and foil."

Ah the humorous reply's to my old school thought is greatly appreciated, thank you. The "wall paper/plastic bag" for the garage walls, good idea. Would have saved me a lot of time and money over lead shielding, not to mention the cost to reinforcing the structure.

What size Gen-Y torsion hitch are you using? Do you think the equalizer hitch is even necessary? Would Gen-Y's WD system work just as good?

What are your opinions now that you have towed more?

I am getting a new 2018 F-250 and frankly I am not sure WD is even necessary. The Gen-Y which looks like great way to isolate truck and trailer to provide better softer ride of both.

My only concern is that there is nothing to prevent sway. I know Ford now has anti-sway electronics but still wondering how much of an issue sway is with the new F-250.

I attached my Equalizer hitch to the Gen-Y. Works great. I can definitely feel the difference with the Gen-Y in-line..

Can you list the part numbers for your Gen-Y and Equalizer? I have a gas 2017 F-250 Crew 4x4 and am about to pick up a 25FB. I want to copy your setup.

Your right on the border line with the tongue weights of that model. We used the 750lb bars for our last 2014 FB 25' AS and they worked fine. The 1000lb bars are likely recommended by BO, as your weight may be ~900lbs+ when loaded; need to weigh the trailer tongue weight loaded to confirm. If you go with the 1000lb bars they will be stiff for awhile, but they do break-in. We have them with our 28' and our F250 4x4. I'm sure someone with a newer 25' and BO can confirm.:flowers:

Here’s the web link to the hitch I purchased. Best to call them to confirm the hitch shank size you want. I used my existing Equalizer hitch from my previous AS/truck set up. It bolted directly to the Gen-Y.

Tsunami-v2, What spring bars do you have on your Equal-i-zer hitch? 1000lbs?

Tsunami, Now that you have a little time with this setup, how do you like it?

Do you feel confident that you are getting good sway control?

I have the ProPride hitch which eliminates sway and provides good Weight Distribution but it is a solid link between truck and trailer. The ProPride with my F-250 beats my Airstream to death on just slightly rough roads.

I would love to have a smoother ride on truck and trailer which I am sure the Gen-Y provides but I am worried about losing the sway control that the ProPride provides.

RVDreamer,

I suspect the basic reason the AS is getting beat to death is the relatively stiff suspension on the F-250, more than the ProPride system causing an issue. Any WD hitch is going to be a fairly stiff connection between the two vehicles. The hitch does have some flex in it because of the WD bars, but they won't do much to soften the ride of the truck.

Have you looked at truck tire pressure and the actual rear axle loading on the truck? If the load on the truck is real light compared to the axle rating, this could be part of the issue--maybe adjust tire pressure to soften it a bit...based on inflation tables for the tires you are using.

I love the combination of the Gen-Y and the Equalizer. I have had this Equalizer hitch for 12 years and never had any issues with sway. The Gen-Y is everything thats advertised. It smoothes out the shock transfer between TV and AS.
