Solar pre wire?

I understand there is a pre wire for solar in late model Airstreams. Is this true? What can I do with that?

It is there to wire up a solar charging system so you don't have to run the wires through the shell yourself. Most of us with real systems find fault in this prewire as it is sized too small for the power we generate!

My pre-wire was located in the fridge access area. Open the vented door on the exterior of the trailer and there should be a wire bundle that enters from the front. There should be 2 10ga wires there that are capped.

I ran them up to a controller and then through the fridge vent and onto the pannels.

I leveraged the pre-wire when I had 320 watts on the roof. When I recently upgraded to 480 watts I also upgraded to 6ga wires to reduce voltage drop.

You can install 400 W in a series/parallel configuration with an MPPT controller and keep your losses at less than 3%. I made the decision to use the pre-wiring to make the DIY job easier. There's also a CAT5 cable that's pre-installed that works well for the remote/battery monitor if you choose to add these.

This is great. Thanks!
