forklift propane tank?

Can I use a forklift propane tank for an airstream? I don't know if that is just what it is called on craigslist or if that's a different one than i see on the front of the airstreams.
Thank you!

They have a different connection valve. You could change your hose. The propane is the same. I would stick with the standard bottles, or have a frame mounted tank installed.

Forklift "tanks" are actually cylinders (cylinders are removable; tanks are built-in). But, they have one distinct difference from your standard DOT cylinders: They are designed to be mounted horizontally!

In other words, no, you can't use one on your Airstream. The amount of modification you'd have to do to your trailer in order to mount the cylinder makes it impractical.

There are some Airstreams that had two horizontal tanks that were mounted up front. So unless you have one of those you probably don't want a horizontal tank. You can't change the orientation without changing the type of valve it uses.

You can't do this without major (and inappropriate) modifications. It's more than just the mounting arrangement.

Forklifts use liquid propane fed through a carburetor. Liquid propane is picked up from a dip tube in the bottom of the tank.

Appliances (gas grills, water heaters, stoves) use gaseous propane which is collected from the propane tank or cylinder headspace.

The service valve is therefore different for the two applications.

You may be able to switch a forklift tank over to gas service, but it will be harder to find a legitimate dealer to refill it.

Mark beat me to the reasons this is a bad idea. DO NOT DO THIS.
