I was offered this (or rather asked if he would sell it) and he said yes. Its all original and I am told its a 1961 Bambi. Would not let me take any pics(?) but I managed to snap this one. Can someone decode this for me please. Toilet is porcelain and on the street side rear. If it does not show too well from this pic the numbers are

19TS S1991 6201

Is it 16 or 19 feet?

Many thanks

Bex

The first two numbers are the length. 19 foot then, which makes it a California globetrotter.

Take a look at the airstream history pages that'll help you decipher the numbers. I suspect it's not a 61 or 62. And Id be very suspicious of anyone who would not let me photograph it. Also looks like that tag was replaced recently. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the info.
So with it being completely stock and not a Bambi, whats a realistic price?
He is asking $3500 and I think thats pretty good (for me) subject to me giving it a thorough inspection of course.

It's a nice size and year. If it is a 61 globetrotter ( why wouldn't he let you take pictures? Make sure you have a clear title.... just saying) In fair condition that's a good price IMHO. The more pristine the outer skin is the better.

You can thoroughly inspect all you like but I'm betting you're going to need a shell off restoration unless it's been undercover for all these years. You WILL have frame and floor rot!

He's a farmer, has lots of stuff in his yard and I am thinking he doesnt want folks "knowing his business" is why no pics.
Skin is pretty much perfect, very few dings and no dents. It does have VCtile throughout so I guess thats not stock/original having probably been installed to replace carpet at some point.
I have no doubt he has title docs to the trailer and when/if I do buy it, that will not be an issue at all. He is just a difficult person to deal with. Talks at you rather than having a conversation with you.

But I will be seeing him again tomorrow and will insist on getting some pics.

Based on your info: 19 foot...California built...the 1991 unit built...in January...of 1962
$3500.00 is a very fair price for this trailer if all the exterior and interior parts are present, and is ok to fair shape! Buy IT! And welcome to the best years of Airstream...
