Navajo National Monument (U.S. National Park Service) This national monument was established in 1909 to protect Betatakin and the further-afield Keet Seel ruin (considered to be, after Mesa Verde, one of the best and biggest in the Southwest). The visitor center and campgrounds (no entrance or camping fees but also no RV hookups) are at about 7,000 feet, on a mesa-top--a most beautiful setting, worth a look if you are in the vicinity. |

Okay, here's one that should be easy. Who is this? It's in Washington, D.C.

While we are in the eastern U.S., this is another unit of the National Park Service. Any ideas?

And I believe the home is located in IL. |

You are correct, the building is the home of U S Grant in Galena Ill. Galena is a very interesting small town in extreme NW Illinois. it is very picturesque with many old preserved buildings. I like to try to get there when we visit relatives in northeast Iowa. It is one of the few towns in the US that I have seen with gates. They are flood gates. Congratulations, John! Let's see if anyone else can identify this one. Where is this marker and what specifically does it commemorate?
|
I'm going to let someone else go for this one. Too easy for me. I remember the day.

So, have I annoyed everyone here so much you are totally ignoring my post #1273, or is it just too hard?
