I definitely don't want to be the one responsible for you not getting your dream trailer! Look, the Classic is really nice with cool features. It's also a more complex piece and that comes with issues too. The GT is a clean modern design inside and is more basic in some respects but it appeals to us. It's all very subjective. The big issue is size; if you can go all the places you want to go with a 30' trailer then the Classic is your obvious choice. The simple truth is it didn't work for us. YMMV.

As you've seen, resale varies widely; probably based more on condition and market forces than mileage. Our 2018 new listed $20K less than the 2021 does and we got a nice discount. Still, we lost about $35K all together on the trade in: could have done better if we'd sold privately but didn't want the hassle. My advice would be to try and pick the right trailer the first time. This is so helpful, thank you very much. I feel compelled to go big with the Classic just because I’ve been saving for so long to do something life changing like this. However, our conversation has given me significant pause. Part of the problem is that I can’t get inside either so I’m suck over analyzing photos. Again, I appreciate your time helping talk me through this. *IF* i end up following in your path... with the classic for a few years and then the GT... what’s the resale like? I see two-year-old Classics for widely varying prices. Mileage differences only?

or had the clips themselves pull out of the sill both of which render the shades inoperable. The GT on the other hand uses simple pull down shades and curtains on tracks. Not as fancy, but very reliable and they get the job done.

Of course a larger trailer is going to have more interior room and storage so you have to decide what fits your needs. The Classic interior is nice and if ours had come in a 25' length we would have kept it, but the exterior size issue was just an overriding factor for us. Bottom line, the interior of the Globetrotter has fewer "special" features than the Classic but it has everything that's important and doesn't feel cheap to us in comparison. Just my subjective opinion. Hope that helps.

The Alde system requires that you watch fluid levels and flush the system periodically so while it's "better" in some respects it also requires more attention. We actually had ours go out (failed fan unit) while camping at Joshua Tree in 30 degree weather. That was fun. Of course a regular furnace can fail too, but more complexity sometimes breeds more problems.

Then there are the window shades. The Classic 30 has dual shades on each window; a sheer one and a heavier one, which are nice for either letting in some light or blocking it more completely. The design utilizes clips which are anchored into the window sill to secure the bottom of the shade and a fairly complex stringing system allows the shades to be raised and lowered. The problem is that the shade is under a fair amount of tension and we had the bottom piece on multiple windows either come loose from the clips (really difficult to reattach)

There's no question that there are touches in the Classic that are fancier than the Globetrotter but, honestly, we don't miss them much. To us, the Globetrotter interior design is clean and modern and in some cases it has simpler features that we actually prefer. Just a couple of examples.

One of the selling points of the Classic is the Alde hydronic heating system. It is quiet, is relatively energy efficient, and provides even heat, but it takes longer to heat the trailer. There are times when you just want to come back to a cold trailer and get the furnace going and the propane one in the GT works really well. It's fan is also quiet enough that we can run it at night and not be bothered by it.

Everything you said is what I really worry I’ll be saying. Do you miss the interior of the classic or is the Globetrotter near the same level in your opinion? (Getting into either of these to view is impossible right now.) Thank you!

We were seduced by the amenities and interior room of the Classic 30, and we really liked it. But it turned out to just be too much trailer for the kind of places we wanted to take it. For one thing, California changed the rules for their state parks and trailers that size are no longer allowed. Also, we had some nightmare experiences getting the thing into tight campsites while boondocking as well as difficulty just maneuvering it up my steep driveway without bottoming out the rear. The room required for keeping it at my house was an issue too. So we bit the bullet and "traded down" to a 25' Globetrotter that we are extremely happy with. Probably not the trajectory that most people take when trading trailers but it was the right one for us.
