We also have a 2017 Q7 but pull the 25 Flying Cloud with 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Diesel.
Best thing I like is the engine brake on the gmc. Take your foot off the pedal and it feels like your braking. Would buy again. If you decide 1/2 ton ford might you might consider 4 wheel drive. The alum. Body is light up front and there have been complaints about front end control problems. The 4 wheel added weight would help with that. Good luck on finding your truck but with a diesel there’s no worries on how much tongue weight, straining going up mountains and over heating, and most importantly stopping when you need to.
