Im thinking that it will be easier. I am leaving the inside endcap in place to helphold the shape. As well the front segments were very distorted. I had to guess and the front isn't perfect. The back didnt get hit near as bad

I spent Friday straightening the C channel that runs along the floor in back, more tree damage. Today I started fitting the new segments for the rear endcap. If I get another together before Saturday we can buck rivet once again

Wow. With the pace at which you're moving along, you'll have this trailer back on the road in no time!! How exciting it's so enjoyable to be able to watch such progress.
I'm still frozen in. I asked the ice fishermen yesterday how thick the ice was on the cove. It's about a foot thick! Once I can clear the yard enough to get to the shop, I can maneuver the AS inside, where there's heat, and air supply!

Hi Rae
Ive been lucky to be able to devote so much time to the trailer. My wife is a saint and she supports what Im doing. I expect it will still take me a while to get Holly back on the road. Id love to be doing some cabinet work next winter.
Working on the endcaps has been challenging. The back was going back together nicely until this morning.Ill have to remake some of the new segments and start over. I got so frustrated I took it apart and came home to play with the dogs.Much better use of time today.
As the segments go together the leading edge of some segments want to kink. Something is to long and its very time consuming fitting and refitting and on and on and.Sorry I had to blow off some steam.
I worked on a house that was hit by a tree. Nothing was square, plumb, or straight. Every wall in that house absorbed some of the impact. Wow what a mess.
Holly was hit by a tree on each end. Without a doubt ,if Im successful, I will be very proud of this trailer. But there are some days that I wonder
Enjoy your day

Boy oh boy do I ever know that one..... there were many days that I thought if someone would just give me a dollar they could have my trailer. But I kept at and all of a sudden my to do list was done. I started out as a camper, not a trailer restorer - and camping is what I enjoy. And now I'm enjoying the trailer.
Soon after I was finished, people would ask me if I would ever do another one - and I said H....ll no! But now that I'm several years from completion, I'm thinking hmmm it would be fun to do another one....
Yes we are sick - hang in there, take it one step at a time and one day you will wake up and look at the trailer and realize its done... - its a very cool feeling.

I'm sure I'm going to be saying similar things soon enough but if we all stick together- through good times & bad ones- we'll all be fine!
Very smart to walk away and do something else!
It takes a lot of strength to do that, and it's an admirable quality to be able to switch the energy- good job!
The next time you approach the job it will hopefully go easier.
I've seen Ken's trailer... A beauty to behold!

Oh yeah, been there quite a few times. Walking away is often the best course of action before you crumple the thing up like an old tin can and take it to the recycler.
You are really tackling a tough restoration, but you sure have the right attitude and a realistic timeline. I'm looking forward to your next update and set of pictures.

Looking great Brad, It won't be long and you will be at that turn around point where you are only putting things together and building cabinets. Not having to fix things every day. The new aluminum is looking good, it will be quite a story when you are done!
Jan and I were at the RV show on Sunday, I thought I might see you in one of the airstreams.

After coming home yesterday I looked at the photos of Holly on your thread. What a mess the endcaps were. Its nice to be able to look back at what was and see how far this trailer has already come.Id love to get good copies of the photos you have.
Jennifer and I worked at the show on Saturday. We always enjoy spending the day in the new trailers although the old ones sure seem to appeal to me

Thanks Ken
Even now the success Ive had are awesome. I wouldn't do this if I didnt enjoy it but it sure would be nice if it was all fun and roses. Its nice to know there are others out there that have experienced the full range of emotions that go along with a project like this

And Rae
You hit upon an important point "if we all stick together". The sense of community around here seems very strong. I feel a lot of support and encouragement from the members of this forum. Thank you
So off to the trailer I go, Hi Ho Hi Ho. Today will be another wonderful day, as they all are.

I got a call this morning. My segments were ready. Change of plans , off to the trailer. After a long day I now have an undamaged endcap.
Saturday Tim and I will buck everything in and I will be done with step one of a bagillion step remodel. With this new found momentum who knows what Ill try next. I hope something easy.
I have brought some windows home to start cleaning and getting ready to reinstall with new seals and glass. Im thinking of going tinted glass

Tim showed up at 9:00 this morning and we bucked rivets for about 2 hours. Wow is that nice to have done. The damage on both endcaps has been fixed/ replaced.
Tomorrow it will be one year to the day that I brought Holly , our 57 Overlander, home. I guess now the fun begins!!!!!

Thank you Rae
Im looking forward to watching your trailer project. Im glad I spent a lot of time looking at and thinking about this project before I got to involved.Today is Holly's birthday and I am very pleased that the endcap repair is for the most part over. I would have never guessed that it would take me a year. Now I can focus on putting this trailer together the way we want it.
I guess for the next project I should look for a trailer with at least one good endcap.Im hoping it will be another 13 panel.

Im still at it! I have been tinkering with windows and its taking forever. Part of the problem is that I find many reasons to check on the dogs or just read these few pages or or or. Wow are windows fun!!!! But it sure will look nice!
Today I went to the trailer and took out the door frame and cut the new opening. I need the hinges before I go much further. The window hole just to the left of the door gets moved.
