Hay Doug. How goes work on May? I've been spending a lot of time with Holly lately. Axels are ordered, I talked with a shop near work and I'm working on the floor. Lots of epoxy. This floor won't rot

I epoxied everything on the last 2 floors that I've done. Every hole that was cut for plumbing or wires got epoxied, all of the elevator bolt holes got it also. I kinda figure if a wooden boat can survive floating in a lake with completely encapsulated structure, my floors will last forever.

I am getting ready to order the epoxy for my floor.
Is it ok to epoxy the entire floor or should I just do the perimeter, edges and all holes?
Thanks!

I'm doing the entire floor. At least two coats per side as well as being generous with it on the edges. If water can't soak into it I'm hoping that it never rots

Hey Brad, Mae's floor is 80%, I have to fit and cut the last piece and install the belly pan. I had to install the shell temporarily so that I could clear out the barn for my son's wedding next week. After all this wedding stuff is done it will be good to get back to the relaxing work of rebuilding Mae!! I only sealed the edges of my plywood, what epoxy did you use, did it come from one of the home stores?

Hi Doug

Im using West System epoxy. Im getting it from West Marine. Its spendy but I have always believed in epoxy. I had a lot of friends that were boat builders years ago and they all used epoxy. Im only working on two pieces of floor at a time and there are six pieces total. Its slow going but when its done my floor will be strong and water proof.

I have been trying to read all I can about the idea of turning the frame over to do the belly pan. Looks like I need to build a couple of gantrys. Im thinking the frame and axels will be to heavy to hang from the rafters so its time to scrounge some timbers

Im moving slow but I just might get me a free donut before this is all over

I've had great luck with RAKA epoxy. The boat builders use it, I've done kayaks and Airstream floors with it. It's cheaper than west stuff.
2-3 coats on both sides and the edges

Holly is coming home tomorrow Again

Three years ago I put Holly in the new building Tim and I rent. Yesterday I took her out for the first time since that day . She lost some weight along the way.

I ordered new axels from Colin Hyde and they have been delivered to the shop Im using to install them. Im hoping their schedule will allow me to get them installed in the next week or two. Its been a long wait but soon Holly will have all new running gear

While the frame is at the shop I will have a new coupler installed, the frame reinforced and a few outriggers moved or replaced. I hope the weather holds so I can get the frame painted before winter.

My plywood floor is cut and Im almost done with the epoxy coating. It took more time than I thought it would. I cant imagine I will ever have problems with it rotting. At least two coats of epoxy on all surfaces.

Four and a half years ago I went to Doug's House to pick up Holly, my 57 Overlander. Today I took her back. Or at least whats left of her. What a return policy he has. Holly is the one on the left in the second photo. The top photo was taken the day I bought her.

I placed the first call to order my new axels on September 2nd and today I was able to drop the trailer off to get them installed.

I remember telling people that I would probably spend a couple of years restoring this trailer. Glad Im not an estimator for a living. It wont be much longer now!

Enjoy your day

She is a little thinner now, hopefully when she leaves she will be a little more rode worthy and the next time she comes back the top half will be back on! Good to still be moving ahead!! You are doing a great job with her!

No. I got the body mounted to the frame again. New axels, wheels and tires. Body work was mostly finished. I never found time to finish it.

I don't know whether to be happy for you (and Holly) or sad! Best wishes in whatever you choose to pursue moving forward, whether it's another Airstream or something else entirely.

Thank you. I have always had another Airstream. We bought a 2006 22' CCD before I bought Holly. We still use it and would never be without a finished trailer. I enjoyed having Holly around but it got so I was spending less time working on it.

The couple that bought Holly have exciting plans for the trailer. It's their first.
