I found the leak

Hi Doug

When Holly first came home she was beautiful and full of promise. This time around she is full of parts and pieces and holes where windows should be.And I think she has become just a little more beautiful.

I dont know if I would have tried what Ive done if the trailer hadn't been damaged.Because of the work involved in fixing it, I became comfortable with making her what I wanted, not rebuilding what she was.

I really like the way she is taking shape.the only major issue is that it leaks like a dickens right now. I better finish up the windows

The first photo is how the curb side looked as it was built. The second photo is what it looks like now. Both window openings will get jalousie windows that will be resized to fit. The door is hinged on the right, it opens forward.

Holly , my 57 Overlander, went indoors again yesterday. While my wife and I were at the Balloon Fiesta I got word that Tim had found a shop for us to rent this winter. Its a 35x 60 shop with a door at each end. Today Tim is getting May, Hollys room mate last winter, and we will get her in the shop space too.

We both have high hopes and are looking forward to another winter of working on our trailers

Awesome repair. We just moved from the Iowa City area to Tucumcari,NM. Hope we can work on ours outside MOST of the winter. I pulled it from Iowa to NM in August and pulled like a dream with a Toyota. Will follow, please keep up posting. Very interesting. What are you using to polish? Tucumcari...1968 Tradewind

I think Brad and I are lucky, blessed. or both. We were very glad to find this building to rent. We don't think we can heat it enough when the temps fall below zero outside, but hopefully that means we only miss about a month of work this winter. You can see in the pic in the earlier post from Brad that we are putting up Poly on the ceiling to aid in holding in the heat.

Im not doing any polishing yet, I just keep changing the metal. The new aluminum comes already shiny although it is probably less expensive to polish the old

I thought I would update Brad's Thread by posting a couple of shots of our new shop. I have additional shots on my blog. This is almost a perfect set-up for us. We spent the first few weeks preparing the interior of the building. We are basically done with that, so work can now begin on the "girls" in earnest.

Hi Doug Its been a while. How is Nellie? Tim and I were at the trailers today for a short time. Tim is getting ready to replace an exterior segment on May and I put the outside skin on Hollys door. I think I may get the entire day on Monday to be down there.

We love the new space and all the opportunity it provides.

Nice place! I'm envious. I was at Colin Hydes's previous workplace (in upstate New York which can rival a Minnesota winter!!) He had rigged temporary work spaces using heavy duty plastic sheeting. He then heated these "pods" with construction type heater/blowers. That way he could heat just the area around trailer he was currently working on without have to heat the whole garage. I'm sure you could rig something up like this for far less money and be able to work all winter.

Today Tim and I had a long day at the shop. The space we rented this year is much better than last year. Its larger and we dont share it with anyone else.

Last year I moved the door frame from the front of the trailer to the back.Now I am working on putting a new skin and lockset on the door. Today I started to rivet the outside skin on

Today both Tim and I were able to go down to the shop. I have been working on the door to my trailer. I have changed the swing, put on the new outside skin and am now fitting the new lockset into it.

What a difference a year makes. Both Tim and I like our new shop much better.
We have alot more space and light. As well we are both more comfortable with what we are doing to our trailers.

Tim removed the first outside segment from his trailer today. I hope its just the first of many
