The number you provided seems to line up as a 57 Overlander made in Jackson Center.

The archives are usually in the ball park, so I think Azflycaster is correct. I have O-7499 Overlander. It is titled as a 1958. It was built in 1957 and sold Sept 57. Model year changes varied over the years.

Is it titled as a 1957?

A few questions to satisfy my curiosity.

Are your end panels 7 or 9 piece? (Mine are 7 piece, which is supposed to have started in 1958, who knows.

Single or dual axle? According to brochure dual axle is an add on.

Shows us some photos.

I will be working with Airstreams Archivist/Historian over the coming winter months to extend the 1959-80 Airstream Serial Number Decoder to include 1958 and prior, based upon the incomplete Airstream production records that exist and using our best combined judgement. Until then, I consider both O7415 and O7499 to be 1957 models.

O7415 was built in April 1957 and should be a 13-panel Overlander as except for one known 7-panel prototype (S/N O7373) Ohio did not change to 7-panels until July 1957 near S/N O7463 +/- 10. We don't know the exact 7-panel breakpoint.

O7499 was built at the beginning of Sept 1957, with the change to 1958s coming about 3 weeks later during the week of Sept 23, 1957 starting at serial number O7513. The 1958s were a little wider than the 1957s. The 1958s also got Hehr Clearview front and rear windows, while the 1957s had Hehr Standard front and rear windows . . . at least officially. It is possible that the window change did not occur at the exact changeover to the wider body for 1958.

Joe thanks for the additional information on my unit. I believe I may have miscommunicated one item when we discussed #1996 several years ago. I believe my trailer was first purchased in 9/57, not built. This is based on info on the warranty card copy glued to the closet door. It shows "9/57 Purchased". Underneath is "Thomas Green purchased 4/1/71" (I think it says purchased and the month is April). I found a name tag for Green during the tear down.

Your prior research for me showed Thomas Green was a member 73/74 and 80/81.

As we discussed back then, the fact mine is titled as a 58 may have been a state title thing based on title date, not model year. As always, thankful for any light you can shed on my unit.

According to Airstream production records, the order or build date for your Overlander was during the week of Sept 2, 1957, so it was built in September, delivered to the dealer in September, and apparently sold to the customer in September. Fast service! The dealer was Bert's Trailer Sales, but at the current time I have no idea in what city and state Bert's was located at in September 1957.
