I'm curious about what kind of welder you have? Have you welded for awhile? Marc

i use a Lincoln, 110V gas less mig welder. i never really learned welding, and the last project i welded was about 10 years ago.
But i have to say, im not very happy with the gas less. Welding Mig with a Gas welder gives you a cleaner surface. But overall, once i have gotten used to the welding machine, it went alright.

Thanks guys for the compliments

Looks so nice . . .

Did you do the work on the axle? If yes, where do you get all the parts and pieces (bushings, bolts, u-bolts . . .)?

I also want to entertain other interior paint ideas. I like zolatone but I'm just sort of burned out on buying tools and learning new skills (for the moment) . . .

It's not as bad as you might think! Try it!

I would agree, if you simply want some other type of finish go for it, but if you are avoiding zolatone for technical reasons it is really easy to apply, more forgiving than virtually any other paint surface.

i am looking for a different product than zolatone if possible. its a little pricey, and i wanted to just go and spray it once and be done with it.

About my axle:
i rebuilt it myself.. the U-bolts i got from Napa, the rest of the bolts from Fastenal and the bushings from a local trailer place. I took all the spring packages apart, cleaned of the rust , primed and painted... easy :-)

awestruck in MA...

Wow is all I ca say! I am looking at a '59 Overlander and it is in pretty good shape.... Skin is beautiful....not a ding or scratch. Same with underpan. Only detail is that it has sat for probably 40 years. Still convincing the couple to part with it

I know it needs a new coupler/jack and tires/rims. Rest of the frame seemed to have only surface rust. Thinking I can get in there with a wire brush and scrape away for an afternoon. Ideally, would remove the frame as you did, but just don't think that will happen. Floor seems solid. Filled with junk and several wasp nests! Oh, and original appliances

As for tires/rims, what should be used? The currently wheels/tires are huge and look like they were for off roading!!

Finally - the resurrection continues...

After a very long break ( Life came in between me and the Airstream ) I finally have some time to continue.
I bought my flooring, insulation, bolts and a bunch of small Parts.

Great Thanks to Vintage Trailer Supply for their excellent service and supplying us with the right materials.

The first challenge was to try to figure out the floor, since i had no templates . The shell was not 100% leveled, and not straight anymore.

I bolted wood on the outside to give me a straight side , checked with a laser pointer front to back and i re-alligned (pushed) the back and front to be centered. Once this was accomplished I traced the front and back of the shell and verified the distance between front and back section.

After cutting the Floor, i noticed, the curvature left to right is a bid off.. but all my measurements , (center, distance to frames) is correct ? But since the front and back floor section fits 100% and i have a distance between both section , which i measured to be within 1/16” left and right, i am pretty confident, the shell will fit.

The whole floor was then laid out on the frame and i started to figure out, how to get the seam on the center of the frame. Once this was accomplished, i turned the wood upside down and epoxy coated the floor.

Even though the Temperatures are today into freezing , i am getting ready to go back outside, bolt on the floor and figure out , how to flip the frame, so i can install the insulation and the belly pan.

After that i will work on my new C- Channel .Hopefully by next weekend I will be able to set the shell (if it fits )

Next weekend i will work on the insulation and hopefully the Belly Pan, as well as the C- Channel. Just wish i would be able to turn the frame upside down..

If you can beg, borrow, rent or steal two engine hoists it's pretty easy to flip over the frame...I highly recommend it

Yes, it was cold and windy...we were camped over in Ocean Springs and even the Snow Birds from Canada were fussing about the weather!

This weekend i will install all the insulation and hopefully my new Belly Pan. I picked up 5 sheets of 0.032 in 4’x10’ for 46.- each.. Not too bad.

Where did you buy the aluminum belly pan sheets? From what I've seen that looks like a great price!

Thanks, Gary.
