1957 Overlander owners
Would be nice to start a list of Ohio and California built 1957 Overlanders. Serial number and floor plans would be especially interesting. Have seen some old posts with 1957 Overlanders, but seems some are no longer involved in the forum. I will start with mine (Ethyl). She is a 1957 California build serial # 6824. Tandem axle, seven end cap, tear drop fender wells. Seemingly built for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Does not have the rear bathroom. Very curious to find serial numbers close to mine in production.

I just purchased a '57 Overlander #6982 made in CA. I will be picking it up around Thanksgiving and would appreciate any sharing you can provide with your restoration.

We have a '57 overlander, #7131 made in Ohio. 13 panel. We call her the 'aluminum wig wam.' It did have the rear bath. We are currently in the process of renovating/restoring, so it's gutted entirely at the moment.

Since I am new to this forum, can you explain to me what a 1, 2, 3, & 4 rivet member means? Just curious. Thanks! April

As you write more posts, the system assigns you increasing numbers of rivets. That's all the rivet count really means.

i also have a 57 overlander. don't have serial # in front of me but it is OH built, twin bed rear bath that we acquired gutted. we plan to build a rear captain's bed and move the bath to mid-ship, keeping the layout pretty much the same otherwise.

1957 Overlander
Hello,
I have a 1957 Overlander being refurbished right now. It had a rear bath / mid twin bunk setup and teardrop wheel well cutouts with tandem axles. Serial number is 6875.

Trying to attach some pictures. Hope they attach. She is on the right. Met a fellow airstreamer for a little camping.

1957 Overlander
We have an Ohio Overlander 0-7499. It has the twin beds with rear bath. Just a shower stall, no tub. Single axle with teardrop wheel openings. All original except for some small wall cabs added to kitchen to bedroom wall. I believe I'm the third owner. PO said he bought it from a Navy recruiter who traveled around Montana and used it for his job. Assuming it was originally purchased in 1958 and is titled as a 58. I know this happened with some foreign car brands back then so I assume the same could happen with a trailer.

So was '57 the year that they went from 13 panel to 7 panels??
I didn't realize there were both made in the same year. Which plant switched first?

Mine is s/n 6850. Tandem axel, rear twin and also seems to be for southern pacific railroad.
Would love to see some photos of a rebuilt rear bed model.

1957 Overlander
We eliminated the back "bedroom" was more a like a plywood board and small dresser and made it the dining table that converts to a bed. Moved the main bed to the front

We renovated a 1963 Safari in 2014 and lived in it for 3 years. Then bought a 1957 Overlander a few years ago with the intention of remodeling it, but life is crazy and we never touched it.
I believe it’s a 1957 Overlander but don’t know what the floor plan would have been. (Was there more than one) 🤔 We purchased it already gutted - missing belly, some windows and the door. Serial #7160 , Jackson Center Ohio.
Would anyone know where or how to go about finding a door and windows for it?

The serial number indicates a 1956 Overlander. Go to the Vintage Airstream Archive Pictures and look at a few of the pictures. The Archives do have some mistakes, but better than nothing. Parts and pieces come up for sale periodically, so keep an eye out. Also, VTS may sell window segments, as may Vintage Campers. Good luck

Here's Ohio 7415, new to me July 2024. It appears to have spent at least 50 years in a campground on the upper Delaware river in NY, ultimately abandoned and evicted after superstorm Sandy, I'm told. Purchased for the shell and axles, it's going to need everything else.
It had twin beds, with the toilet/shower in the right rear, and optional-for-'57 tandem axle.
