Help Identifying a whale tail?

Greetings Airstream friends,

My name is Matt and I am having trouble identifying my recent airstream find. I was hoping others here might be able to help shed some light on which model I have and allow me to start figuring out where to begin.

She needs quite a bit of work but I couldn't pass her up since I've always been such a fan of the 13 panel, whale tail models.

Serial number is 6293 and there is only one small door badge with the Airstream logo and the Main st. Los Angeles address. Rear twin beds with street side toilet and shower.

I'm trying to get a year but having trouble finding this particular model and floor plan. Closest I think I can get is a 26' 1953 "Sovereign of the Road" built in California. I would be very greatful for any other information or details to help me start researching this model.

Nice find. With the serial number 6293, that indicates a 53 Cruiser. The Vintage Airstream Photo Archives gives a lot of information and pictures. They list the 53 Cruiser as having serial numbers from 6200 to 6399. Good luck.

I would live to see a photo of the serial number plate. The sloped rear end with a whale tail suggests this is a 1954 26' Cruiser, not a 1953 25' Cruiser which should have a vertical rear end, unless the serial number plate has been swapped to a different trailer. I'd like to see how it is attached.

Also, the hexagonal Bargman 6 tail lamps are indicative of it being a 1954, not 1953.

P.S. I belive the estimated serial number range on the page Bubba referenced may not be correct.

Thanks for following up on these questions Joe, would be interesting to find out what it really is. It sure looks longer than 26’.
