Thumbs up It's a girl!!!

I am proud to announce we have adopted a 1956 Safari double w/bunk today!!!! She weighs in at a whooping 2730 lbs and is 22' long. The interior is "all there" and the outside, while never polished is very straight and has no major damage - just some black rub-marks.

We adopted her from the grand-daughter of the original owner. We have named her "Lily Bird" after grandma but she will go by "Birdie". She does need some TLC...but I'm ready to take on another project ~ and as Fred said, she's "...just waiting to be released from the white paint jail".

Project #1 Strip the white paint on the wood, the "lovely" green & white sponge paint on the walls and green & black on the counters...not to mention the wallpaper & stick-on tiles and floral everything!
#2 Step back and see what's salvageable!

We'll do our best to bring her back to her original glory ~

Shari

No Way. Congratulations!!!!!! I love the white porcelin appliance fronts, hope you can salvage them and that is a neat layout. Think you can bring her to Perry?

I'm jealous! I love it, but the inside looks like an interior decorator gone wild. NICE trailer, Congrats.

Sweet! That trailer looks like it was loved. I have a nice dried flower arrangement that would match perfectly - I'd be happy to send it to you.

Very cool find!

Very Very nice - I like the look. Wish it were me but I have a manditory 2 Airstream limit imposed by the Aluminum Queen.

The 'decorator' appeared to have done a good job albeit not to your style. Lynn and I 'decorated' our first house, the whole house, in the early 70s. Of course we personalized it too much. When it came time to move up we had no problem selling it to a couple that "Just Loved it!" 3 weeks after the sale I drove by our former house and the driveway and front lawn was strewn with all our 'decorations' cabinets, counters, fireplace mantle. I guess they were 'decorating' too. Your project looks like it is in great condition. Now you 'personalize' it your way all you want. We won't say anything.

Nice find, Shari! Great floorplan. You don't see many of them! I'll be excited to see the final product.

Shari, you can probably finance the restoration by Ebaying those stabilizers...
Seriously, it looks great, and looking at the positive side, the paint and flowers may have protected the woodwork underneath, depending on the paint used.

Oh Shari, congrats,
I wondered if something was up from hints in your posts in other threads about getting another trailer...
Have a name in mind yet? I can't wait to see what you do to this one. What a gorgeous shell!!

It is so nice to see that another significant historical Airstream has found a loving home. Congratulations on the new baby.

I wonder what the inside panels would look like stripped and polished? Maybe a retro CCD?

What a beauty. Congratulations to the new parents. I'm sure it can feel the love already in it's new home, and from the look of it, it has seen plenty of that all of it's life.

I love happy adoption stories.

Thanks for all the well wishes & congrats!

Wheel - not likely it's gonna make it to Perry - we'll be mid-restoration
Fyrzowt - Thanks! We think so too ~
Codybear - We love the 13 panels ~
Janet - Oh Dahlin', how fabulous of you to offer! I wouldn't want you to give those up! How 'bout you keep them!
Clancy_Boy - But, I AM the Aluminum Queen in our house!
Anholman - Looks can be deceiving - the pictures make it look good, trust me on this one! It's not nice!
Balgrn - Except for the decorating - it's all there & in good shape ~ a diamond in the rough!
85MH325 - LOVE the floor plan...it'll take some getting used to though
Overlander63 - the trick will be finding a stripper that removes the latex w/o damaging the wood or beatiful Zolatone that's underneath it all
sd90mac - Pictures? Now come on Marie, you know me better than that! She'll have her own website!!!
Tin Sista - are you the only one that caught the hints??? She's "Birdie" cause a lil' bird told me about her and coincidently (no lie) the original owner's name was Lily Bird. Weird huh?
Ken_J - Rob was already asking if I had your new number...I'm sure he will be in touch
Moose tags & Mistral Blue- She's a keeper! Thanks ~
Balgrn - like I said...that's scary!!! but at least you didn't inherit the wall paper & faux finishing to go with it!
Overlander63 - I already have big plans...but CCD style is not it. More retro-classic take advantage of all the beautiful (we hope) wood in there.
Safari57 - We are thrilled to be part of this happy adoption story!

Now, I gotta go out there & get to work!

Shari
