She is pretty comfy...with or without raindrops or snowflakes - we've had her out in both! I'm sure your SR will be just as cozy & comfy when it's complete!

I can't wait to see part II! I have your theme song still going through my head from part I. I'm thrilled it's a good song, because when I'm out in our trailer (which is at the beginning stages, still stripping it down to insulation) the song goes through my head on continual replay.

Here's the deal with the "seams first" - just our logic, not everybody may agree. We scraped out all the old, cruddy sealer with popsicle sticks & mineral spirits, then polished the seams, cleaned them really well - again with popsicle sticks & mineral spirits, then resealed them with fresh vulkem/parabond.

We've done this on both trailers and feel that it makes sense for a couple of reasons. If you leave the old sealer in place while polishing then reseal afterwards, the old sealer can chunk out and get imbedded in the buffs which causes undue scratching. By doing it this way, you can get the seams buffed up really well, then sealed which leaves the sealer cleaner in the end. If you seal first w/o polishing the seams - the polishing compound gets gooped up on the new sealer because we are trying to get the 55 years of oxidation off and working the area harder.

As we've worked on the trailer, we would take things off, then polish around the area before putting parts back on. This way, the hard work is done around all the details, seams, joints, drip caps, etc. and just the flat parts are left. Yes, we still will go over those areas again, but it'll be a touch-up, not the original cut, so the compound isn't as big of a deal.

We also wanted to get everything sealed up real good before we got all the woodwork in and winter hit. Lastly, IMO the major effort of polishing is better to do in the spring when you can appreciate it all summer rather than in the fall just to let it deteriorate all winter.

Besides, we kinda like the "orange segment" look...

We actually use PermaTex Gasket remover to get all the old sealer out, then clean the area with mineral spirits before re-sealing. The mineral spirits don't budge the old sealants - just clean up the area afterwards.

We got everything at Caswell's

(1) - GA58 Grinder/Buffer Adapter
(4) - SSCW1220 Spiral Sewn Cotton Wheels
(2) - LCW1240 Loose Cotton Wheels
(1) ea. - BRBC5 Black Emery Bar, Brown Tripoli Bar & White Rouge Bar
(1) - WR995 Wheel Rake (for cleaning & fluffing the wheels)

Mr.InsideOut uses two sewn wheels together (for a larger work area) with each the black and brown bars and use the two loose wheels with the white. Mostly using the brown saving the black for the most severely scratched parts. He work an area from brown to white or black, brown to white then follow up with Nuvite 'C' then 'S' with the Cyclo - although the intention is to compound the whole trailer then get to the Cyclo stage.

I do the exact same thing with smaller wheels and a drill for the detail work - I can't manage the compounder, it's pretty heavy and I have bad elbows. But I can do the drill & smaller wheels on the trim, tanks and other small areas.

It sounds like more steps, but it really isn't because we do far fewer passes with the wheels than when we use the wool buffs and Nuvite products only. The bars cut through the oxidation pretty quick - but I would say it would probably easier to go too far and burn through the Alclad easier too - especially with the black bars. The same Milwaukee compounding tool is used regardless of the pads & compounds - one method just uses it flat and the other is on end.

Having done both now for the compounding - I would agree that the wheels w/bars are faster at cutting through the oxidation than the flat buffs & Nuvite products. Nobody can argue with our personal experience & opinions...

However, we are doing a kinda combined technique where we use the bars for the major compounding, followed by a pass with the compounder & Nuvite 'C' then final "wax" pass with Nuvite 'S' & the Cyclo. Whatever works - they are all just tools, the mirror finish is the goal - doesn't really matter how we get there.
