Sheri,
Your "un-rally" in RockyMountainNational Park sound like it may have been fun, except for the wind. How did your dogs enjoy it?

We all had a great time Spike...the dogs (& cat!) included. We'll do it again sometime - as long as the roads aren't to bad to get there ~ gotta go "up-n-over" a couple of hefty passes to get there from here. It only takes about 1-1/2 hours, but in nasty weather, we wouldn't attempt it. Especially with our 2-wd vintage tow vehicle.

inspiration

Hi Shari,
I have checked out your images and styling of your Safari (Birdy) and it has become the inspiration for the reno I am doing on my 55 overlander (B-Liner). The wood work detailing is great and is what I am kinda shooting for.
In my head I see it all done but in reality it is a diamond in the rough, very rough HA! But I will get there.
Did find some nice coffee cups that will eventually make it into the styling.HA!
And designed a "B-Liner" logo which I might paint on when done.

Have fun
Cheers
Brian

Your B-Liner logo reminds me of the logo on my next-door-neighbors Bee-Line travel trailer. She owned the trailer from 1964 through the early 1970s. I always enjoyed seeing her depart with the Bee-Line in tow behind her 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass Convertible . . . I always wanted to buy her Cutlass, but another neighbor was able to beat me to the deal in 1972.

I am sure that you will get many years of enjoyment from your Overlander!

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Good luck on your reno Brian - looks like you have a good headstart on the "fun stuff"! I'll keep an eye out for a thread following your journey! You know we all like pictures around here...

Update on the custom tanks you ordered. I used your drawing, as we will be doing the exact same renovation, and below is the quote from All-Rite.
Good Morning Mark –
Below is your quote. This is RETAIL pricing. If you have a repair type facility with a valid business license then you may qualify for WHOLESALE pricing.

$680.00 Tank A
$660.00 Tank B
$900.00 Tank C
Plus Packaging and Shipping

If you purchase all three we can give you a bulk discounted price of $1,950.00 for the tanks. Plus Packaging and Shipping.

Ouch!!!!!

ZOINKS!
This exactly why we've decided to use "stock" sized tanks and just figure out how to make 'em work. Custom tanks would be nicer, but we're really trying to keep to our budget.
Keep us posted on what you wind up doing. :-)

That's why Chris figured out how to build ours himself! Smelly work but they came out beautifully. They are expensive little suckers!

Just what's in our Little Girl Refurb thread starting at post 168: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f185/little-girl-refurb-50967-12.html#post948482

We've been trying to make it back to the Vintage Restoration Rally (now the Vintage Trailer Academy) again to not only show off Little Girl, but teach a seminar on building tanks out of ABS. The date change for the rally prevents us from attending this year. Hopefully we can attend in 2014.

Hey guys, I bit the bullet and ordered the tanks, but negotiated the price via our business. They are in now and I'm fabricating a new belly pan, but am not totally comfortable with the plumbing scheme. Do you have any good pictures of the underside? Or drawings of how you routed the pipes.
Lastly, I really want to thank you guys for the information you've shared on here. You've really helped us with our restoration on our '55.
Also, where did you get that 90 you used on the ceiling tank vent?

Shari, In the end, what did you use to get paint off the walls of the AS? Someone painted the vinyl and it is sticky. HELP.

We ended up using Citri-Strip to get the paint off...but I don't think that will help with the stickiness that comes up from the old vinyl wallcovering. Some find that washing the vinyl down with TSP or Dawn, then coating it with Future floor wax will help. Otherwise, the vinyl (once clean) can be sprayed with Zolotone if it's intact (looks great!). If it's bibbling off or torn, you might have to resort to stripping it.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do ~
