1956 Safari > 13 Panel > Front Kitchen Models
From the known VIN numbers (6300-6433), it appears there were only about 134 of these unique front kitchen models built.
6001-6135 > 1954
6136-6299 > 1955
6300-6433 > 1956
I am compiling a list of ones that are still known to exist. Their unique layout with the front kitchen and bath contribute to some unusual restoration challenges we face. (like dump valves in the front of the trailer, extra tongue weight, adding grey tanks, etc.) It would be a nice resource to have a list of others that are facing (or have already faced) some of the same challenges.
If you would like your vintage front kitchen Safari included on the list, please contact me via PM and I will add your info. I will post a link to the list here for all to share ~
Shari

Serial Number #6319
Shari, we are the proud owners of a 1956 22 ft Safari, Serial number 6319. We purchased it from Steve Butcher, Funkyjunkfarms.com in LA two yrs ago and have been enjoying it ever since. We have traced its history from the Shady Dell in Az to CO to CA and now it resides in WA state.
We are preparing to some renovations in the next yr or so. Make the Dinette more rounded and allow the refrigerator door to fully open and to do something with the two beds in the back. Nothing firm there yet, we are looking for ideas. We have a Park Model so we have no holding or fresh water tanks, just the original Heater under one bunk.
We are open to any other ideas about reworking or restoring this classic baby of ours.
Thanks
Rick and Joanna

Shari please add Luna to the list. She is #O 6039. 1954 Safari and you know where that kitchen is located....
I had the incredible fortune of becoming her owner yesterday. She will need it all including some new frame and a lot of other stuff too.

WOW! Two new Safari's in one day!!! Very cool ~ love to see some more pics of both, especially insides. Look to be in great shape from the outsides.

I own a front kitchen Safari also. It's a 1954, serial # 6131. When I get the windows from Rob, it will no longer be the "toy hauler" edition.

Rob, Those pictures on your blog actually make her look good.
Toastie, I hope to not polish. If I can do any exterior repairs without too much disruption, the pewter will be just fine.
Silverhobby, Post us some photos.

I can't wait to see that stove put back in action.
Question: Does anyone know the rationale/history behind the use of suicide doors? (I don't mean to hijack this thread. Mods/Shari, please get rid of this if you think it doesn't work here.)

I don't know their rationale, but I know the non-suicide door can not open all the way on a lot of trailers with awnings. The awning arm would be mounted right at the rib next to the door allowing the door to only open 90* - that's why we have a rope & pole awning on our '64 it has a non-suicide door.
If our Safari didn't have a suicide door, it would block the vents for the gas fridge.
Shari
P.S. I'm no longer a MOD so I can't split this thread ~ Now, back to our regularly scheduled program...

A Few More Pics
One of my friends asked for more pictures of the Safari. There's not a lot to show since the interior is so rough. The front window where the a/c is now mounted will be a challenge. I am hoping to find a donor window for that spot soon. Enjoy...

Hey 62 Overlander and Silverhobby, Looks like with the pictures of your two units, you almost have a complete restoration example to go by.
