Airstream Romany
Just when I thought I knew everything about Airstreams a model I've never heard of pops up. An Airstream "Romany" is on e-bay right now - would not believe it if there wasn't a picture of the name plate.
Anyone else ever heard of these?

The "Romany" was a scaled down International.
Was sort of popular, for a short time.
Most people felt it did not have enough bells and toys.

Thanks - thats interesting - someone should tell the folks selling it on e-bay as they seem to think it was the top of the line for that year..........

Ken.
E-bay is E-bay.
As far as I am concerned, there has been more "MISREPRESENTED" Airstream and Argosy motorhomes and trailers, as well as parts and other items listed, as well as outright trash, listed on E-bay.
So far, we have been a witness for 5 different law suits brought on by buyers who got ripped off.
Pictures are vague, or intentially do not show a problem or problems. Descriptions beat around the bush as well as outright lies.
The big problems are for the newcomer. Usually they don't know the product, but "assume" that because it's Airstream related, that the seller is "HONEST". Bah humbug.
I would never buy anything related to Airstream listed on E-bay, nor would I recommend buying from E-bay to anyone.
It's a haven for "CROOKS," that goes unpoliced or regulated.
That's been proven, over and over again.

Oh.. if your careful there is a lot of good stuff on e-bay. I agree with you are large purchases - like trailers. I would NEVER buy a trailer without looking at it first - annnnnd you really need to know what your looking at. So as Andy says, it the inexperienced that get stung - take someone with you who knows these trailers.
That said I've bought all kinds of neat stuff on e-bay and have never been stung. I look at the feedback, look carefully at pictures and so far so good. Of course the most I've ever spent is a couple hundred dollars.
As an example last summer bought an orginal unused rear awning for my Tradewind. As usual I was concerned, but when I got it - it was in fact unused/new.
I know that ALOT gets misrepresented as Andy says - - - - - sooo beee careful

The beginner in the Airstream program, is sometimes like a kid.
They wanted an Airstream for years, so they get impatient, and jump before they look, then wonder why they got cheated.
In all 5 cases that I have been involved with, the M.O. is exactly the same. I wanted one, I found one, AND, I will get that one, AND FINALLY, I don't care what I pay for it.
Then the tales begin, ever so sadly.

Almost fell in the A/S trap many times
As a first time owner, who has wanted one for over 30 years I drooled over E-Bay, cried over wrecks at the insurance auctions, and lived the let downs of the proverbial “great deal in a barn.” Luckily I had been a non registered guest on the forum for a long time and knew what to expect, and look for. My unit was bought from a forum member on the “for sale and wanted forum” he was honest and answered all my questions. I don’t take a 2600 mile round trip dry run for a unit in “shi***” condition very lightly.
My wife and I are very happy with our A/S only due to patience, a honest seller and this forum.

I bought my unit from a local (sort of) non-airstream dealer. Thanks to the massive amount of information contained on this board and associated websites (Inland Andy's) I was able to make an intelligent assessment of the unit we were looking at and make a offer. We have purchased from this salesman before and trust him. The only thing that I missed was the frame strengthing plates that were added on the 70's vintage units, fortunately the Airstream Goddess smiled on me and our unit had already had these installed. We are happy with the unit we purchased, we will buy another one in the future...DEFINITELY Probably vintage, this one is a learning experience, but that is what it is all about. Besides I own an Airstream one of the few, the best and the proud! (regardless of what my children think)
