So somewhere between 8194 and 8208, factory switched.
Please correct registry, sorry for the confusion

Dear Capt Jones:
We just bought what we believe to be a 1958 22’ Flying Cloud. Serial number 22-8543. We (and it) live in Anchorage, Alaska. It sounds like this trailer spent most of its life in Tok, Alaska.
Hope this is helpful! I believe she was produced in California.
I’d post pics but haven’t figured that part out yet

I have another for you (sorry for the Re-post— I posted earlier as a reply to Capt Jones bf I realized he/she are no longer chairing the list). We just bought a 1958 22’ Flying Cloud. Serial # 22-8543. Resides in Anchorage, Alaska (but I believe it spent most of its life in Tok, Alaska).
Looking forward to the restoration process!

181 Flying Clouds Now Identified

ingutuk,
Congratulations on your new project! The trailer was not already in the registry and has been added. You are correct, the serial number indicates a CA built trailer.

Here's a link to adding photos that may be helpful:

Good luck on the restoration!

Now I am curious how many of these 21-22 ft. beauties are still out there. I am going to try to create and maintain a registry of them. If you are willing to add your trailer to this list let me know by either posting or a PM. All I am looking for is Serial #, Your name, forum name, and general location of the trailer (don't have to be too specific).

I see this as being very useful to other owners who are looking for resources in the rebuilding and maintaining of their trailers.
I have a Flying Cloud I would like to list on your registry. I think it is a '58 22footer but my VIN shows 228550 on the registration. does this mean it could be a '50? Where can I find the VIN # on my trailer?

238550 or 22-8550 is a 1958 22' Flying Cloud built in the California plant. It was ordered on 5-23-58 and likely built soon thereafter, probably in early June 1958.

The VIN is this serial number 228550 that is found stamped into a small plaque near the trailer door. Official 17-character VINs started to be used on Airstreams for the 1981 model year.

183 Flying Clouds

Mark A Rule,

The '58 sounds like a great trailer. When time allows, start a thread and post some pictures; we'd like to see it. You are now included in the registry:

Joe,

As always, we appreciate your input and knowledge of Airstreams. Thanks again.

Jodi, I assume 7434 made its way from Kellyslc to you. The number is registered, but we will change it to Spearjodi in Utah.

New Addition

Robert -

Your trailer has been added and it was not previously in the registry so the total count is up to 184 Flying Clouds (9 from 1959): CaptainJones Flying Cloud Registry 10-19-2020.pdf

Where did you find her and what's her condition? Looks to be in good condition on the outside.

Congratulations on your acquisition.

I am embarrassed to note that I’ve had this trailer since 2015. Many distractions have occurred to keep me from doing anything but I’m fired up about it now and intend to start restoring to a further extent as soon as possible. I Purchased it from a gentleman in San Antonio Texas. I have included a few photos of the interior when I got it. Not much is changed but I intend to freshen it up quite a bit. I would appreciate it if you have any information on a reasonably priced shop that would be willing to do a complete floor rebuild. Thanks.

Robert, you may want to start a thread and post the question in the Forum’s Floor and Frame section to draw attention to the subject matter. I think I read recently that there was someone around Houston that would work on a vintage AS. I know Paul Mayeux with A&P Vintage Trailer Works up in Paradise, Tx is knowledgeable and is recommended by some on here on the Forums. Keep us posted. Thanks
