year wood veneer changed to laminate? thx

Hi, Does anybody know in what year airstream started using plastic laminate instead of real wood veneer and solid wood combo's in the interiors? I know there is always some wood, but it looks as if in 1971, there was a big switch to plastic laminate, especially in the kitchen. Am I correct in the year, '71? And was this for all models, or was it phased in over a number of years for different models? Did they switch back to real wood at some point? I am looking to buy and do want a real wood interior. So far I am asking each seller, and deciphering through examining photographs. Thanks a lot for any help. Merci. Susie Rogan, Yukon Territory, Canada

'71 was the year

As far as I know, '70 was the last year for the wood veneer, across the line.

Thumbs up I agree...

'71 was the first year the cabinets switched over to plastic laminate. So if you want "real wood" in a vintage unit, stick with the pre-'71s

You may want to check out the Vintage Comparison Matrix located on our website in the "Links & Resources" section.

Susie,
We have a '69 Landyacht with what I believe to be mahogany, cherry? not sure but it is beautiful!. The wood was in need of some TLC when we bought it. I put some Minwax Antique Oil on it, hand buffed it and it came back to life. As Roger said it will be no more and along with the other unique aspects of Airstreams is just an added beauty. You won't regret your decision on this one.
